  1. In between the rear elements and toward the center of the lens, there

is a 2mm by 2mm starburst pattern imperfection. This spot is small in

relation to the lens but is quite obvious when the lens is

scrutinized. It looks like frost on a window. The pattern has a

center from which radiates fern like stems. Is that fungus or lens

separation or a manufacturing imperfection? I have not used the lens

(and I am not in a position to test it presently) so I do not know

how this will affect if at all its picture taking abilities. At a

distance it looks like a dull spot. What do you think it is? Thank

    you all for your answers.

  2. Hello Ake. I ordered a camera from Wisner in November and paid it in full when I placed the order. In May, it became obvious that I would not be getting the camera anytime soon. I asked Wisner to either refund me the money or deliver the camera. After much aggravation and back and forth, I finally got my refund last week. It was a drawn out and stressfull process. So, do not give up. Keep on hammering. And you know what I found the most unsettling during this ordeal was finding out that Polaroid Japan was the official distributor of Wisner cameras in Japan. Go figure.
  3. 1. Will a 360mm lens be utilizable on a camera that has a maximum

    bellows extension of 380mm?

The camera spec. sheet says it will accomodate focal lenghts from

90mm to 360. The minimum/maximum bellows extension is 105mm/380 mm.

    2. Does this mean that I will be restricted to working at infinity

    only?

Thank you all for your contributions to my questions.

  4. I am thinking a buying a used Wollensak 159mm lens. I like it because

it is very compact and weighs very little. Does anyone know how this

lens would compare to a Super Symmar 150mm XL. The intended purpose

for this lens is black and white architecture and landscapes on 8X10.

Weight and space are of concern, but not if quality has to be

compromised. Trying both lenses at the moment is not an option.

Thank you all for your responses.

  5. What do you think is the future of Polaroid 8X10 film? Do you think

that Polaroid will stop producing it in the near future? I am

thinking of buying an 8X10 camera but I would not do so if Polaroid

were to discontinue their 8X10 film in the next ten years. I shoot

strictly on Polaroid type 53, 54 and 59 films. However, it would be

nice sometimes to have bigger images obtained the same way (I have no

interest in darkrooms and computers and I am quite satisfied with 1/1

    images).

Thanks for reading; thanks for your answers and opinions.

  6. First of all, thank you for your answers to my original question.

Now, I am not sure if I got this one right so correct me if I am

    wrong.

I understand that the Imagon 360mm barrel lens will cover 8X10 and

    allow camera movements.

So will an Imagon 360mm in a Packard shutter.

But specifically, will an Imagon 360mm lens in a Compound shutter

cover 8X10 without or with some camera movements?

I am asking because I would like to work with the 8X10 format but

only if I can use this particular lens in the Compound shutter. I

plan to shoot only on Polaroid film and I absolutely need a shutter

that gives me accurate speeds in the range of 1 sec. to 1/50 sec.

I have just purchased this particular lens/shutter combination but

before I invest in an 8X10 camera, I would like to make sure that it

    will cover 8X10.

This lens came with the 3 discs and the previous owner marked the

f/stops on the lens so it can be used accurately without the discs.

I also purchased this same lens without a shutter and I had the S.K.

Grimes factory install a brand new Packard shutter. This was before I

purchased the one in the Compound shutter. And I will put the Packard

one up for sale if the Compound one covers 8X10.

Thank you for reading and thank you for your answers.

  7. Here is a typical answer from Ron Wisner to my emails. Ron never calls back later on in the day. I have had several of these replies during the past months.

    Ron,

What will it be? Tell me now.

  8. In December 2004, I emailed sales@winser.com an enquiry regarding the 8X10 cameras. Within minutes of sending the email, I got a personal phone call from Mr. Wisner himself. I was impressed, and placed an order on the phone immedialtely for an 8X10. I paid in full right away.

In February 2005, I asked Wisner through an email, if I could cancel my order. I got again an immediate reply. He said that he could not cancel my order because my camera was a special order. He could however put it on consignment for me. Not knowing how long it might take to sell on consignment, I told Wisner to proceed with my order.

At the end of February 2005, I asked Wisner for a date on the delivery of the camera. He said it would be ready in 3 weeks, which meant mid-March. From there on, it has been impossible to get hold of Wisner, but finally, at the end of April, he answered his 800 number. He told me that the camera would be ready to ship on May 13, that he was a very busy man, and goodbye.

No camera yet. Since the beginning of June, I have been emailing him daily regarding the delivery of the camera. No answers.

Cerainly, I have no one to blame but myself. In my defence though, I will add that I opted for a Wisner camera because of the reviews his cameras get in the photographic press(magazines). I did not know about this site until a friend and photographer emailed me the link to this site.

In retrospect, I would not buy a Wisner camera. I agree with many commentators that Wisner should hire a business manager.
