I have used special use permits to take environmental groups onto parks, but it was for group camping. You probably need a permit to do commercial/production work, and how that works will vary from park to park.

Don't know much about Ocho, but I visit Negril and other western towns every year for the last 18. Dragging my backpack with DSLR and equipment (about 25 pounds)around, usually always walking by myself, and have never really felt threatened. People try to sell me dope and other stuff, but you will find that once you are a known quantity to the locals, they don't hassle much. Always tell them you have been coming for years, when asked. I know you had a bad time, but I just want to say that that is not the Jamaica that i have known for almost two decades. But, YMMV, Mon.

I had the same issue as you. Here is my system: I bought some very small eyehooks and screwed them into the wall at the ceiling corner. To them I tied some monofilament fishing line, with a small, colorful bead tied on the bottom (optional). I tie paper clips onto the lines where I want to hang a picture. I then take my prints, mounted on foam core, and duct tape them onto the line over the paperclips, which gives the tape something to grab onto. I did a wall of my office like this, and can periodically exchange the old prints for new. The clips are essential to keeping the prints attached to the mono.

Pelican supposedly makes soft bags that fit inside the 1400-1500 cases. I have never beeen able to find one in a store. Has somebody out there used the Pelican soft/hardcase system? Comments?

Order from B&H, and save the tax.

I have photoshop, but use it only for some more sophisticated stuff. I find Nikon Capture to be very user friendly, and does most processing very well. I'd pay for Capture again.

Wish I could be more helpful, but I'm not around my home computer right now. I have the same scanner, and it behaves just fine on my Win XP home OS. I just cant remember if I had to get a driver off the caon website, or whether XP recognized it when I bought the new computer...

I just carry some plastic grocery bags, punch a hole for the lens opening. Cheap disposable, looks a little funny.....

My experience is that different scanners have different strenghts. I use both an Acer 2740 and a Canon 4000. The Acer eats slides all day long, but negatives require a lot more fuss to attain the poper exposure and color balance. The Acer has software profiles for different film types.
I'm less happy with the canon for slides (dark), but it swallows negatives gladly withour having to specify a film type. YMMV.

No--Nikon View comes with your camera. It has a converter that will load into PS7. You do not NEED Capture. But you might like it. I like its raw interface better than photoshop's. I now mainly use Capture, and use PS when I want to do some fine work.
