Ken,
there are Nikon lenses that have motor inside and are not driven by the body. I believe most recent ones have the af motor inside. In fact the lower end Nikon dSLRs (D40/D60) cannot drive the older motorless AF lenses.
IIRC all the modern 3rd party lenses for Nikon have the af motor.

William W,
afaik DOF does not depend on the "lens`s Focal Length (FL) relative to the camera format", but on it's Focal Length, full stop. CoC takes care of the camera format.
Am I wrong?

Tim, that's the exposure compensation.

+/- 1/3rd of depth of focus, not depth of field, btw

Digital Rebel does not provide the sensor size information to the flash.
I believe that 20D was the first one to do so.

Just to remind you that the entire lens is used to produce the image. A 1.6x sensor only uses the central portion of the image circle, and that central portion is produced using the entire area of the lens.

Tom, the only thing that matters for the perspective is the subject distance, not the FOV.

Considered the speed of light, I don't think it matters how long it takes the light to travel from the flash to the subject and back. If you're subject is 2 feet away from you it's 0.000000002 seconds or 1/500 000 000 of a sec.<br>
