Nope...not your photo - my observations...The reflected rose is all blood to me. And, although it pains me to say it - quite unnecessary.

Wonderful image, full of ambiguity either way you de-saturate the rose.

I do think it makes a difference in interpretation.

The lighting on the head is extremely cool. The eyes and mouhparts have a look of something out-of-this-world and quite hungry for the residents thereof.

And I can still appreciate it! This is lovely, and very well done. The composition and lighting are superb.

Hello Georgie, I picked this one to comment on from your portfolio becuase it is my favorite overal because of the surroundings of your subject. As I have pursued macro photography (the poor man's wildlife) I have found that sometimes backing off my subject adds to the overall aesthetic appeal of the shot. Obviously you dont have that choice all the time, especially as you are using a reversed lens on a P&S digicam.

You have a nice portfolio and I look forward to seeing more.

    Memorial II

You have a wonderful portfolio. Your culling process certainly worked well! (I'm refering to the note in your bio)

IT was hard to pick just one image to comment on. Your color experiments with your landscapes are very interesting as well. The color, the lines, the symmetry of the lights, & the profoundness of the lost lives represented by the memorial all come together here thanks to you. This is a striking image, and it makes something "new" in a way that only the best photos do.

I keep coming back to look at this picture, this is certainly not an insect I thought could look so profoundly "human". The lighting is great, and if you cropped to achieve this effect you saw this very well within your image.

    Just plain great.

  1. Don't get upset - I rated the cropped photo highly. The reflection just doesn't work for me. The obvious "fakeness" is a distraction from a good capture IMHO.

But ultimately, who cares about my opinion if this edit it satisfies you? Aesthetic judgements are so highly individual .

If you do prefer the reflection, why not test your PS skills by adding a flower to the end of that stem?

I love the composition and the tones. I am truly lucky you rated one of my photos so I came across your portfolio. I've just started scanning some of my B&W images and I can already tell that it will be quite some time until I achieve the tones and contrast I want. Lovely picture and pictures.

Excellent Quality. I never would have guessed a 2x TC w/ this lens at f22 could produce an image this good.

Wait - oh s&^t! let me be clear...Excellent job on YOUR part! The lighting, DOF, and optical quality (part I was surprised at) is first rate.

I like this alot, and I find that I am drawn most strongly to the woman with her back to the camera. I would love it if she were the only figure, because it would be even more enigmatic. The building is mysterious and dreamy looking & a great choice for IR work. Your IR gallery is quite nice.

I like the framing, somehow the unbalanced crop and the turn of the head give this image a strong sense of ambiguity. Seems very symbolic to me. Great capture.

    The Falls

I think this is nearly perfect. It has a wonderful look of color infrared film, and is oodles better than the original. My only suggestion is that the high contrast portion at the top of the photo detracts from the wonderful aesthetic. I would suggest cropping the top level with the top of the depression above the falls. This would get rid of the sky and high contrast trees, while further emphasizing the foreground colors and the waterfall. Nice job!
