Good job on the Signet and nice pics! I also just finished a test roll on mine and quite impressed with the results. Luckily mine had a working shutter and RF/lens focus was on the spot when I received it, just had to clean the cloudy VF.

Beautiful pictures! It took me five years to find a Canon P, finally landed one last year...love the 1:1 VF.

Thanks for the tour of Chicago via Yashica mat! My last visit there was 20 years ago and didn't have a camera ;( Nice collection of cameras!

Being a Filipino it is nice to know our poorly funded Navy still has some ocean worthy vessels. Thanks for posting!

Zorki/Fed 1 cases have a 5/8" thread so it'll have the same issue. Keep your $2 ER and just look for a 1/4" screw. Old mom and pop camera stores and camera shows are a good place to start. Google for a show in your area.
Hope this helps!

Hi Nigel,
Thanks for the confirmation and enjoy shooting with the spiffy camera outfit!

Is that a rare "rigid" Summar 50/2 attached? Congrats!

Looks like a black painted Fed 1g with square VF window.

Really cool Luis, I enjoyed it!

Disassembly of a Zorki 3 is very similar to the Zorki 4, scroll down this link at Rick Oleson's page:

The slow speed dial is like a Leica III/IIIa: http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-155.html
Hope this helps!

J12 = Jupiter 12, 35/2.8 made in the former Soviet Union based on old Zeiss blueprints further tweaked by the Russians, really good and affordable wide angle lens. Can be found in either LTM or COntax mount.
Luis, great pictures! I've been following all your postings.

It would help if you post pictures, other than that it could be a replacement [non-leitz?] top plate.
-
Another classic lens worth searching for if you need the extra speed is a Steinheil Munchen Culminar VL 85/2.8, not as common as the Elmar 90/4 but with a bit of patience can be found at a similar price point. A bit softer than the Elmar so it can be flattering for portraits.
-
If you need a 90mm and can live with f4, look for a coated post war Elmar 90/4, do a google search for serial no. dating. They can usually be found for under $100 with decent glass and user barrel. Nice compact and sharp classic lens. Mine works on Fed/Zorkis that have a "wedge type RF cam" but not on the earlier Fed "pointy RF cam". Scroll down this link as to why- http://www.ragarecords.com/photo/
The Jupiter 9 is also a fine lens if you can find one which is properly calibrated. As mentioned by others FSU cameras and lenses are plagued with quality control issues, but if you are handy and can do some DIY repairs or find working samples, they can be fine shooters.
Good luck!

AFAIK most Elmarit 90/2.8 lenses produced were M-bayonet mount with only a few in leica thread mount which command higher prices due to collector interest. An LTM lens can be used on an M body with an an M-adaptor but not the other way around. The Feds and Zorkis only accept LTM lenses.

Hi Frank,
Servicing the Zorki 6 is quite simple since it has no slow speed escapement. If you are quite handy you may want to look into DIY/CLA. I've uploaded some tips which will not require dismantling the shutter assembly just the removal of the top RF cover so that you can clean and lubricate the curtain drum shaft -

Hope this helps!

I use the 12585 clip on hood, works on both the 'cron 50 and Elmar 50/2.8 E39 lenses. Are you thinking of the Fison? That only works with the A36 mount Elmar.

I've uploaded my DIY experience replacing beam splitter mirrors on Leica II and FSU clones, should work with the III or IIIa too.

Hope if that helps.

Guy,
I just realized that the heavystars link I posted is for a 50mm lens, my apologies. I actually bought the metal 49mm tele-photo hood for my J9 from him a couple months back. Contact him directly and inquire if it isn't in his current listing.
-
How about this metal hood for under $7 from Heavystars at the auction site?
I have one and it works great with the J9. Before that I tried a generic collapsible rubber hood and the flare [of the hood] was too wide, it blocks the RF window.
Good luck!
