I have a Mac similar to yours, 4 yrs old. Mine begun slowing down last year and I traced the problem to internal hard disk. It was writing data very sluggishly though the read speed was okay. I was not sure was caused the problem but what I did to to solve the it was to create an OSX partition and boot from an external firewire HD. I did not bother to replace nor use the internal HD after that. Still using OSX 10.5.8, and photos are stored in a second fw hard disk.
I have Snow Leopard 10.6.3 upgrade disk but holding out for now until it is really necessary to move up.

See if you can find it here: http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm

Thanks, Keith.
If not mistaken, Time Machine is a feature of Leopard. I am still using OSX 10.4.11.
Not so familiar with the TM but if it can do the backup automatically for me, that will be
great and something to consider upgrading.

Mark,
Thanks for the advise. I did check for any messages that can give a clue, but there wasn't
any. Anyway, I searched the Help document and found I could create a new catalog to
which I could export existing photos. Thats what I did and backing up the new catalog
works.
I will just keep the old one and delete at the proper time. At least, with the new I know I
have a back up and can recover if I need to.
Thanks to all for the advice.

No problem, Dan. But yes, the backup drive is on, and I can view the drive directory through
the Finder. Forgot to mention I am using a Mac.

Mark, I checked and there's ample space in the backup drive. The last backup is quite small,
only 92MB.

I set Lightroom to backup the catalog every week. Recently, the backup will not start up and I get a
message that LR could not back up the catalog without any explanation at all.
I was wondering if anyone has encountered this before, and can suggest corrective actions to take,
I already searched the Adobe LR resource site and raise the question but did not get a response.
Thanks.

It is the red-eye reduction setting alright. Turning it off fixed my flash issue.
To all, thank a lot!

Some of you may be experiencing this, but using the built-in flash of my D200,
there is always a delay between the pressing of the shutter button to actual
shutter release & flash. This is true even for the 1st shot. As such, I am
unable to capture the exact moment I wanted on the camera. Any clues? Thanks.

Try Capture One Pro - you might like the result. This product is expensive though.
