If you go to the landscape category of my site you will see the color version of the slide I took with Velvia (with bush removed). With this photo I converted to BW using the channel mixer, converted to grayscale, 8-bit, duotone and cropped. After sharpening, the sky was too grainy, so I masked the sky to reflect the pre-sharpened version. That was the only manipulation performed on the sky.

I think the top of the cacti interfere too much with the clouds. If I would have positioned my self more to the left, I think I could have had a better composition.
I also agree with Jim that the horizon should have been more offset from the center.

I think there's something wrong with the composition...couldn't put my
hand on it before - but now I think I know what it is. Let me know

I agree, more depth of field would have been nice. Typically, I try to avoid blur in the foreground since it's distracting. If I would have used a flash, I could have stopped down more.
