Andy,
If I'm not mistaken, the 50/1.4 Nikkor F slr lens has a totally different configuration than the SC-Nikkor, which was around 10 years older. The SC's is a Sonnar design that's been stretched for wide-open, close-up focusing.

Paul has a good point; you'll be surprised at how far f/2 can go. But if you want a tip on a good Nikkor, kevincameras.com (no affiliation) has an SC-Nikkor for $275 with a minor cleaning mark/scratch. I was going to go for it, but got a Nokton.
I would try to find a used Nokton for $250.

How many times does one really need a lens like that? How many times does one even need a Noctilux?

The silver versions go for around $400 on Ebay. A bit more for the black ones. Except for mint Hexars with their boxes, none of them seem to go for $500... yet. Great camera, if you like a 35mm view; I wish they had made one with a 50mm.

Hi, for some reason I can't access the older threads on this...
they've been wiped away
What does a NOOKY HESUM do? And can I use it with a Summitar on an
M3 with an adapter?
Thanks!

This point has been beaten to death, but if the old folks were happy with old lenses, why can't we? I'm not saying that it's wrong to feel like you want the best lens; it's more than ok, however, to like what you have. I just won a $120 auction for a clean Summitar and I'm just tickled.
