The 20D was a bit too bulky (although the 70-200 lens didn't help the matter). But I'm starting to reverse my thinking and think that I may need to sacrifice some size for the benefits of an SLR.
-
I want to take shots of the family and also some artistic nature and maybe some city shots on the way to work. Just thought that the 20D at $2000 with lens was too expensive a camera for a beginner. Kind of like a first time guitar player buying a top of the line Les Paul to play "mary had a little lamb" on.

I initially bought the 20D but thought it was too much camera for me
so I returned it and ordered a Canon G6 for its compact size and SLR
type features. However, my wife has a Canon S60 and after reviewing
the instruction manual on the G6, I don't see too many differences
between the two (aside from the MP difference).
Are these cameras too much alike? If so maybe I should've stuck with
the 20D or at the very least purchased a less expensive (like the SLR
Nikon D70 or Digital Rebel) so that we don't have two cameras that do
the same thing.
Any feedback or opinions are appreciated!

Thanks for your responses. I decided to go with the G6 and learn/use that for a while. I can bank the remaining $1500 I saved from returning the 20D + Lens and I can use that to buy a DSLR down the line if my interest/needs require or I can buy a better computer to process images on or something with it.

Long lenses are not required - just basic city-scapes and people photos. I handled the D70, Digital Rebel, and several point and shoots. The G6 and the D70 felt the most solid to me (outside of the 20D), the Digital Rebel felt a bit cheap compared to the others.

I am new to photography, recently puchased a Canon 20D with a lens to
take family photos as well as to start to learn to take some city /
photojournalistic type photos. Loved the camera but found it
cumbersome to carry everywhere and to be discrete (especially with
the large telephoto zoom) especially a pain to have to carry and pull
out to get shots on my commute to work and walking around the city
and I didn't want to draw attention to myself by wearing it around my
neck. Returned the camera and now I'm back to square one trying to
decide what camera (SLR or otherwise) is best for my needs, my budget
is around $2000 but I'd like to spend less if possible (one of the
reasons I decided to return the camera).
For all of you photojournalists - style photographers and photo
bloggers, what camera/lenses do you use? Would I be better suited
with something like a G6? Or do most of you walk around with a DSLR
in your bag/around your neck at all times? Any feedback is
appreciated.

I have the 18-55mm

I just purchased a 20D (w/kit lens) and want an all around lens for
everything from family portraits to landscape shots / tourist-type
shots. I have around $500 (give or take $100) to spend and want to
get the most value and quality for my money. I have been considering
the 70-200 but feel that it might be a bit too bulky for everyday
carry (any thoughts?). I have also heard good things about the
Tamaron 28-75 and mixed reviews on the canon 28-135. Any feedback is
appreciated.
Mack Warranty - Bad Experience - Beware of these guys
in Accessories

We have a Canon Powershot that is less than 2 years old. We got the dreaded E18
message and brought it to Mack to fix (it is still under warranty). They don't
even call us back to give us a quote - they mail me a quote that says "impact
damage" (which isn't the case) and note that the warranty has been voided and it
will cost $150 to fix.
Any ideas on what my recourse is Also - where else can I get this camera
repaired - I refuse to pay these idiots one more dollar? I have to go pick up
the camera (I'm in NJ) I think I will tell them what I think of their scam.
