I just bought a 12GB Sandisk Extreme III CF and discovered that the 20D can only format it to 8 GB. I found this on Sandisk's website: " Maximum capacity for this device: May support up to 8GB
Please check with your device manufacturer for details."

Sigma AF 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 APO EX DG OS. Excellent lens. Works well with extenders.

I would suggest using manual focus for macro work in the range you mention. AF is useless at those distances.

According to the EXIF, the flash did not fire. Almost certainly shutter failure. One thing I did notice:
Date Time Original = 1980-01-01 00:00:33
The Date/Time battery is dead. Can't imagine that having anything to do with the shutter problem you're having but it does need to be replaced. Page 33 of your owner's manual tells you what battery you need and how to replace it.

Hello, SL. This is a Canon EOS forum. Your question will probably receive more useful responses in the Digital Camera forum or one of the other forums covering your type of camera.
Good fortune,

I use Sandisk Extreme III 2GB cards and have never had a problem. The camera counts down correctly and tells me the card is full. I also have a 2GB Kingston card and a Hitachi 1GB Microdrive as backup and have never had a problem with those. I used to use a Lexar 40X card without problems. I think the problem is definitely with your Dane-Elec CF cards. I've never used them.

It's the lens that's on my 20D most of the time. Extremely versatile and I consider the images made with it superb. I've never regretted that purchase.

I used my 20D and Sigma 80-400 with a Tamron 2X Pro TC, mounted on a tripod, OS off, to shoot American Elk last October. The EXIF reported a 160-800mm lens with the correct f/stop. I focused manually. I was impressed.

The same cable release fits the 5D as the 20D.

I have that gimbal mount and it is worth every penny I paid for it. I have it on a Bogen / Manfrotto BO3221WN. I also have a Bogen / Manfrotto BO322RC2 Grip Action Ballhead and I've found the gimbal mount to be much easier to use. I use it with a Sigma AF 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 APO EX DG OS lens and a Meade 1000mm f/10 Schmidt Cassegrain.

I, too, have had the Katz Eye Plus for quite a while and have no problem with underexposure. I shoot only in manual so perhaps that makes a difference. One of the best investments I've made.

There have been many, many discussions on this issue. Do a search on Photo.net for "sensor cleaning" and you'll have more information than you can possibly use.

Upgrade your OS at home. Windows 98 never did handle USB very well.

Does this happen with all lenses?

I use my MR-14EX with my 20D and the Sigma 180mm f/3.5 EX APO Macro IF HSM. Great combination.

For wide angle work, I use the Sigma 12-24/4.5-5.6 EX Aspherical DG HSM. Remarkable lens and considerably less expensive than the alternatives. I've never been sorry I purchased this lens. I use the Sigma 24-70/2.8 Aspherical EX DG for midrange work. Both these lenses seem to work well with my 20D.

My solution was to buy these two:
Sigma 12-24/4.5-5.6 EX Aspherical DG HSM
Sigma 24-70/2.8 Aspherical EX DG
I've never been sorry. Sigma is making some remarkable EX lenses.

I've found the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM to be a very useful lens. Of the four lenses I use regularly, this is the one I use most often. Yes, it would be even better if faster, but it's capable of producing very sharp images on my 20D.

AF speed on Sigma 150mm macro with focus limiter?
in Canon EOS Mount

I have the Sigma 180mm f/3.5 EX APO Macro IF HSM. When using it on my 40D, the AF is superb; very quiet and precise. I rarely use it for anything but macro work and then I focus manually. I've used it for several years on my 20D and it's been a remarkable lens. I don't know if the 150mm has HSM. That would make a big difference.
