Ken this is real life. Not some fancy tourist spot where people line up to have their photos taken. They are spread out doing their wash. It depicts the random and sometimes chaotic nature of life.

Michael-notice how the shadow is under the horse. It was almost high noon, not a good time for photos in bright sun. I guess I could have had him come back later- not an option nor the setup with reflectors and flashes that would have spooked his horse.
My guess is that he was about 17 years old

Great market scene! I was there in January 1998 and it was raining. It will be awhile before I get back there. I guess I will have to stick to my work in Kazakhstan.
Keep up the good work!

Comments Wel Come!
Taken from the car window as we drove along.

Yes, the tilt really adds to the perspective. There are more "holy men" in Pushkar then there ever have been camels!
-
Jeff you were lucky! Thats why they have the dogs. I befriended many of them by feeding them. But I once got attacked up in the Asi Valley above Turgen.

Lucky for you that you are not in the last jeep. Its hard to see the wild life with so many vehicles- unless it is road kill. I really enjoy your photographs keep up the good work

There must not have been school the day we walked down this street. They were finally
dispursed by some adults after they almost wrecked some wedding decorations.
Comments welcome!

I disagree with the comments that this photograph is too busy. It captures the many layered images of rural India, or at least an Indian village. I like the fact that the people are in the picture engaged in many different activities---it's like a bird's eye view of that neighborhood. Excellent really.

This woman asked me to take her photo with her little girl and then covered her face. It was a
bit difficult to find her to give her a copy of the photo!

Actually they are just naturally curious. There must have been 5 or 6 nests of them in the same tree! The tree is a very large tree (for this part of Rajasthan) and is used as the local bus stop. No one seemed to pay any attention to them until the "Westerner" started taking photos of them.
Thanks for the comments!

Christian- The sun of Rajasthan is very unforgiving! I was in Pushkar less than a year ago. I missed the Camel Festival but I hear that there are usually more tourists than camels. I would like to see more of your photos from India.

I saw quite a few of these trucks years ago in Punjab-It would be nice to ride in the top to get some great photos.
A German anthropologist photographed alot of similar trucks a good tens years ago and had a photo exhibition. Alot of the trucks are painted in Rawapindi, but I am sure there are shops further north.

The sand must be such a problem with your camera!
I am having to deal with dirt in my camera after 4 months in Rajasthan.
