Have you looked at the <a href="http://photographersindex.com/stockprice.htm">Stock Photo Price Calculator</a>? I am not sure how up to date the pricing is, but it's a start.

What is a reasonable markup for a wedding album featuring 15 8x10 prints? I
haven't decided on the album quality yet but expect it might be within the range
of $50-$100 (something fairly reasonable is all I've decided on for now). I
usually do not do actual albums but photo books and realize there's more
involved in creating an album with it's inserts, mounting prints, etc. I'm just
trying to ballpark it for now. What would you recommend for a price to charge
the client?
Thanks in advance for your response(s).

<a href="http://photographersindex.com/stockprice.htm">This</a> might be a good place to start.

Why not consider something like <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/PHOTO-LIGHT-DISC-LIGHTDISC-HOLDER-ARM-STAND-KIT-PDK-4_W0QQitemZ200013723464QQihZ010QQcategoryZ88667QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">this</a>? I won a bid on one the other day and I'm still waiting for it to ship to me, but it appears to solve the problem (I'll know more when I get it).

Not sure if these rates still apply, but:

Have you considered Zazzle.com?

Has anyone ever tried this alternative:
1. Copy image to new layer.
2. Go to Image > Adjustments > Curves
...and then move the top or bottom to your desired background color (white or black)
3. Use your eraser to outline and completely erase any blowouts on your object, leaving the background at its new color
4. Flatten image so that the object remains in its original state but now the background has changed.
This method seems almost easier than the lasso tool -- but is it as effective/good? Other thoughts.

I will definitely post some feedback once I find an appropriate publisher.
Side note, though:
I just read the TOS for some of the above listed sites and they offer photo book publishing for PERSONAL USE only -- not commercial (which is what I want to use it for). Hmmm...

Is there not a forum for the above specialty or am I simply overlooking it? It
would be nice to have one dedicated to the techniques specific to product/still
life/commercial photography.

I own these and love them and they do not come with a high price tag:

I've bought his background and backdrop kits and just purchased a "cool light" product lighting kit, which I plan to start experimenting with this weekend. Good products, fast shipping (from CA to FL, where I live), very responsive. Good Ebay seller. In fact, I've spent almost $2K on Ebay the last 60 days purchasing a variety of products from his company as well as fellow ebay seller amvona -- also an excellent company to deal with. After purchasing directly from other sellers like B&H and Adorama, I find my experiences on ebay just as good and actually prefer ebay now for my photog equipment.

I will be traveling to St. Augustines for a weekend within the next few weeks
and ask for recommendations of some of the best and most beautiful, historic,
etc. places to photograph. I love architecture and historical sites so any ideas
would be appreciated.

I'm referring to the single run kind, not mass publishing (yet). Eventually I would like to publish a photo book of my works but not ready for that yet. In the meantime, I'm seeking the best bang for my buck for custom photo books I create for individual customers with the most imporant factor being high quality printing. I've seen a mix of reviews (e.g, Lulu's photo print quality being poor, etc.) for various services and wish to find one and stick with it for a while. I'm seeking recommendations from anyone who has used the above services.

<a href="http://ourmedia.org/">http://ourmedia.org/</a> is an option to consider.

You can try selling them via lulu.com or cafepress.com.

I am trying to determine a publisher of my photo books for my portfolio as well
as my clients. Has anyone compared or used the following publishers? Which is
best? Do you design photo books for clients and if so, what is the average fee
for such a service and product? Any ideas, thoughts, feedback is appreciated.

Any additional publishers to consider?

Thank you everyone for your feedback -- and as I continue to tweak my site (e.g., find a template that is more conducive to a design/photo site, perhaps), please feel free to continue to critique. I really appreciate it!

I will be using Photoreflect. I looked at smugmug (which a lot of folks seem to recommend) but they don't appear to provide protected albums for the bride and groom...or am I missing something?

I just (re)launched my web site with the intent of finally moving forward with
my passion for photography, art/design, and software as an actual business.
Because my business, though completely "creative," has several facets, I hope
I've integrated them well here:
<p>
<a href="http://www.debwire.com">http://www.debwire.com</a>
<p>
Please provide any feedback about anything relating to how I am presenting my
business via my site. I have included a category for my designs and imprinted
products, a category for my software (coming soon) and one for my photography
(including a gallery of samples and services purchased through a shopping cart).
Prints and novelty products will be sold separately. Additionally, I've also
created .PDF files for my prospective and current clients to download (my
pricing sheet, releases, etc.). I am also prepared with other forms such as
reprint rights/license forms (for more commercial endeavors) and a wedding
agreement. I've even created an online appointment scheduler indicating my
availability.
<p>
Whew. I'm tired. ;-)
<p>
Have I missed anything? Is it too much? I believe in providing as much
information to the prospective/current customer up front as possible.
<p>
Feedback is appreciated.
