Brian, I agree that people who build an affinity for each other?s work can present a mutually biased rating. In my brief scan of the abundance of responses on this thread, I didn't see you address the antithesis of the affectionately called "mate rate" problem; low ratings. Granted, if I can't tell who rated me high, I can't reciprocate the "favor" if so inclined. Conversely, I can also make a "retaliatory" rate to someone and not suffer reprisals.
Personally, the only rates that have any meaning to me, are those that I can identify and gauge the value of their perspectives by the quality of their own portfolios. People who [iMO] have poor work foster little import, those with superior work have opinions that are valuable to me.
By in large, I can?t tell who has visited my portfolio any more. Most remain anonymous. In short, the rating system has little meaning and really hasn?t accomplished much in the solving the hotly debated rating issue.
If it were my choice to make, I would simply abandon the rating system altogether and move images to more prominence within the community by number of views, excluding thumbnails, and perhaps number of comments. Obviously, some categories would garner more views than average as a group, and some fewer, nudes for instance.
I don?t know you, but by what I can sense from your comments, you seem to be as irritated by the flap that ratings cause as those who are complaining about the process. At the very least, abandoning the methodology would alleviate some of that irritation.

I updated one of the photos in my porfilio, but the thumbnail still
shows the old version. I deleted my cache and did a "Shift" +
refresh of the page. Still no change. Is there some method to get
it to update? THANKS! :)

YEEAY! I'm a subscriber! Not emmediate as the text implies, but better than those of you waiting significantly longer.

Ok then, waiting it is. As long as this is the norm and nothing is "broken," I'm happy. Thanks for all the replies and the APUG referal. :)

I subscribed via PayPal several days ago, and believed that the
subscription would take effect emmediately. I have received
confirmation from PayPal that the payment was made. I have sent
several messages via the "Contact Us" form but seeing "...your
chances of getting a response are practically zero...many messages
go unread," didn't exactly easy my concern. So, thought I'd give
the forum a shot. ~Don Bailey
