Care to elaborate?

Asked and answered, sorry. Apparently, the IS motor on that lens is louder than any of my others. (Turned off IS and the noise halted.)

-

In evaluating the f4 IS, I continue to hear a motor running when changing the object I focus on. Is this normal?

-

I'm leaning toward the f4 for weight, IS and it's great IQ. I'm actually evaluating one this weekend and the weather is terrible (rain and thunderstorms) so I can't get outside to play as much as I'd hoped. Suppose it would be a good opportunity to test the indoor capabilities.
Anyone have any suggestions for tests I should try?

-

I used to have the f4 non-IS and sold it. At the time, I recall thinking I'd like it better if it had IS. I did admire that lens, which produced many good images for me. On a related note, as I age I realize I am not as able to hold my equipment as steady as when I was younger. That's the dilemma I have placed myself in...steady or speed.

Thanks all for your input so far!

Thanks Marcus. I am a less experienced shooter and lean toward the IS. Just picking the collective brain for compelling reason to get the faster lens since both are available to me.

T2i and 50D

-

Not for pro use and I would like some advice. I do not do fast moving sports, but would like a lens that could be used indoors for school functions. Crop bodies, some wildlife, some portraits. Appreciate your input.

Quick. Thanks!

Found a 540EZ for a deal, but will it work with my 20D?
-
Thank you. I'll try it too.

Precisely what I was looking for. Thanks very much!

Is there a preferred pattern that I might use to see if my camera needs any
adjustments? A colleague suggested a soft focus check.

Looked in classifieds and none were found. Camera is discontinued. Looking for
one to use as part of a project. Other than the large aution site, anyone
suggest where else to find one? Thanks, and happy holidays.

I used the term manual, when I should have just said I wanted to graduate from auto. Thanks for your suggestions!

I'd like to know the best steps to take for a novice to jump out of auto mode
and into manual with raw images. Suggestions please?

Beginner question:
I downloaded images from the 20D to the PC. Can I format my 20D card
and move some images back to the card using the EOS viewer software?
Windows Explorer will not do it. We want to print out bulk images at
a retailer, which would be cheaper for our purposes than printing at
home. The retailer has a machine which can read all cards and make
4x6 prints for my wife's scrapbooking needs. These are Disney pics
and with over 300 images, we will not be editing them all for this
exercise.

Not sure if this would be better suited for a beginner forum, but
since it's 20D-related here goes. What do lens hoods offer and why
should I use them? I saw many 20Ds during my first outing sporting
hoods and wonder how they help and are used. Thanks for your
patience and advise.

Read manuals a couple of times and can't spot an answer. Is there a
preferred method? Advantages to either?

I bought a Lowepro Nova 2 AW last night. Thank you for your insights.
PS - To whom it may concern, my camera is an investment of hard earned cash, research and time and will be treated as such. It is possible to be protective of expensive equipment and still utilize it as the tool it was created to be.

Going to Disneyworld next week with new 20D and wondering about
protection. Should I find a semi-hard case EH-17L by Canon or is
there a better alternative? Don't want to lug around too much stuff,
but want to keep my new investment as safe as possible.

Hit return too quickly, wanted to poll you about a general purpose lens. Is there any single lens that would cover non-professional uses like kids, dogs, landscapes, limited nature around the house?
-
Thanks to all who responded. There are many pieces of good information. The 18-55 lens will only cost $77 more than the body only they sell at KEH. I'm going to get it if nothing else than to use as a backup. I plan on saving my pennies for a few good primes. I decided on KEH because they take trades and I have a manual SLR and some lenses that are gathering dust. Will respond after the deal is done to share the experience.

I'm ready to buy a 20D and think I'll start with the 18-55mm lens
many come with online. I am not sure about the compact flash memory
card, 40x vs 80x. Care to enlighten me on the merits of one over the
other or another alternative? Trying to decide between Adorama and
KEH as well. Experiences with either? Thanks for sharing.
Lighting for Canon T2i Video?

I want to make a home inventory video. I'm familiar with a hotshoe Canon flash, but not battery powered video light sources. Not wanting to make the type investment frequent video producers might use, I'm looking for suggestions for light duty, home use devices.
Anyone in the same boat and have an idea? Thanks!
