1.
A very large concrete block resting on supports under the interstate highway. It was a counter weight for the old railway bridge featured in last week's photo. My guess is it was too big and heavy to move or breakdown, so it was left standing on steel supports. This is a 5 photo panorama stitched together in Autopano and then rendered as an HDR with CS5. You can see three of my friends wandering around in the photo to give you a sense of the scale.

00WUaI-245177684.jpg.ed1c64bc23bb420beb17e74494273268.jpg

  2.
A quick note about the burnt railroad bridge in my photo for this Wednesday. It has a plaque stating it was built in 1912. Crosses Buffalo Bayou very near downtown Houston. It is located directly under a huge set of highway interchanges. I am not sure why it is still there or how and when it burnt. But it still stands and looks like it will be there for a long time.

  3.
Attended a regional synchronized swimming meet all weekend. The Synchrostars won first place for 10-12 age group teams. Here they are doing their performance. D700 + 80-400 VR ISO 2500 1/250 f4.5

00WOpZ-241917784.jpg.3448a381cb3171c615ab408b6ae75995.jpg

  4.
I have been using a 55mm f1.2 AI'd on my D700 with great results! Also, I like to use my 135mm f2.8 AIS. That's one of the best things about Nikon, the vast majority of their lenses do not end up becoming paperweights. It makes the transistion to digital even more fun if you can bring some of your favorite lenses along for the ride.

  5. I use an inexpesive Patagonia fanny pack for a m7, 35 cron, wallet and change. It can be strapped low and facing your back while riding.

This is what I do when riding locally. If I was traveling through Italy I would probably take a good P&S instead, look for a Yashica T4! Easy for grab shots while riding and not that big a deal if lost, stolen, or broken. Fantastic Zeiss lens.
