1.
I like a lot Sirmione! Is a very nice place, I like also Peschiera del Garda, not too far from Sirmione.
I live about 110 Km from Sirmione.

  2.
Thank you for your suggestions!
I have 35 afd f2 but I'd like to have a Sigma 35 f1,4 but for the moment I cannot buy it.
I think that 24-70 nikkor and 70-200 f4 VR will be the principal lenses I'll take with me. I'm thinking to take also 300 afs f4 and nikon TC 1.4. I' like also 150 Sigma macro but also 105 Sigma macro (the first one for little animals, flowers, the second one also for portraits).
About tripod thanks a lot for the suggestion! I'm planning to buy one. I'm not yet shure wich one but MeFoto seems very good, I'm thinking to buy the more strong RoadTrip MeFoto instead of the Backpacker version because seems more strong (Before your suggestions I was thinking about Sirui T-1005X or Sirui T-1204X).
Thanks again!

  3.
I'm planning a tour in Madagscar. (I have yet been in Zanzibar and in Kenya for photo safari).
My tour will start from Antanarivo and will end at Tulear and at Ifaty for 3 days at the sea.
I'm asking you suggestions.

My photo camera is Nikon D800 Full Frame camera.
I have the following lenses:
Samyang 14mm f2,8
Nikkor 24.70 f2,8
Nikkor 70-200 f4 VRIII
Nikkor 300 f4 AFS
Sigma 105 f2,8 macro EX HSM OS
Sigma 150 f2,8 macro EX HSM OS
x1,4 Sigma
x1,4 TC Nikon
(I have also prime nikkor lenses afd as 24, 28, 35, 50 f 1.4, 85 f1.8, tamron 90 macro, micro nikkor 55 AIS f2,8 and other but I think to take only zoom, and macro or tele lenses above indicated).

I have also nikon 1 V1 with two zoom standard, wide and tele I used in Kenya as second body and as videocamera for videos, and GoPro (to use as action camera or as sub-water camera).
Suggestions?
I like to take photos to nature, landscapes, animals, people and macro, so I think to put all lenses above described into my Lowepro Flipside 400 AW .
Do you think I have to take a small travel tripod and if yes, wich do you suggest?

Thanks a lot.

  4.
Hello! I did my first Safari in Kenya. I toke with me Nikon D800 body, Nikon 1 V1 body.
I used a lot nikkor 300 f/4 and 30-110 zoom for Nikon V1. I used also Samyang 14, and Sigma Macro HSM OS 150 mm f2.8 I bought one day before my travel. Very good lens!. I used also Nikkor 35-70 f2.8 AFD. I didn't use other lenses.
My wife take my 'old' D200 with nikkor 18-200 AF-S VRII and my 'old' nikkor AF-S 70-300 VRII.
I toke a lot of photos. Very good places is Kenya. Thanks a lot for your suggestions!
Yes, there was a lot of dusk but I changed lenses without of problems. D800 is very good body. I cleaned also external of body. Also V1 is a good small camera.

  5.
I just ordered one for about 300 euros with 10-30 VR.
I think that V1 is perfect as second small camera to use with the big Nikon D800.
For the quality photos D800, for street, churches, video, point&shot or as a backup a small V1 discounted should be very good.
Never thought to buy V1 before at full price, but now (that there is new V2 more expensive), V1 seems has reach the correct price/value.
In my opinion (for my photos) 1 FX + 1 CX is better than 2 DX .

  6.
I was been in Tanzania (but only in Zanzibar) for one week two years ago but this will be my first safari. I stay only 3 days because I have just one week to spend and I'd like to spend 3 days also on the beach.
So, I know that are only 3 days but for my first safari should be good (in the future I'd like also to spend more time for another safari).
I'll be in Tsavo Est and Tsavo Ovest.
The prime lenses are very small and are not heavy, so I prefer to put all them into my photo-bag because are very bright and very good. I'm thinking to add also e super wide lens like samyang 14mm f/2.8 for landscapes (also for the beach).

  7.
Thanks to all.

So I think to put into my bag the following items.
D800 body
Nikkor 24-85 f2.8-4 (for landscapes, people, big animals near, elephants, general purpose).
Nikkor 70-300 VRII (for animals, if I don't know if they are near or not). (less quality, best versatility)
This two lens for general uses.
Nikkor 300 f/4 with or without TC14E II for animals if I know that they are far (best quality, less versatility)
Prime lense 20 AF f2.8 (for landscapes) (I'd like to add samyang 14mm)
Prime lense 35 AFD f2 (for general purposes and low light) (best quality outside games drive)
Prime lense 50 AFD f1.4 (to have a very fast lens for the night and insight in low light)
Prime lense Tamron 90 macro in case I have the possibilities to take macro.

And for my wife my old D200 with tokina 12-24 DX and or 18-200 VRII (to avoid change lenses), or 16-85 DX for better quality.

I Have also monopod, is better to leave it at home? (I tought to use for video outside games drive, not on 4x4 but during pauses between them).

  8.
Parks are Tsavo Est and Tsavo Ovest. I'd thought to stay more than 3 days but for the first time I preferred to do a small safari to keep experience before. In the future (next years) I'd like to go in Tanzania, again in Kenya and in South Africa, but for the moment just small safari.

  9.
Thanks to all !

I stay just for 3 days because I have just one week. I will spend 3 days for my first safari (I went to Zanzibar but never to Kenya for safari) and the other days near the sea for relax.
If I increase safari days I have also to increase expenses a lot, waiting other years I will became old lol (I'd like to be in Kenya for my 52 birthday) and I'd like to repeat this experience also in the future (with more experience and skill).

I have also my old previous D200 body and my wife has D50 body, I'm thinking to leave D200 to my wife and D50 at home.

(For DX I have also nikkor 18-200 VR and nikkor 16-85 VR).

So I can take D200 with 18-200 VR (to avoid to change lenses) and 70-300 VR if we need 300mm of lenght, and give them to my wife, and D800 with 20mm f2.8, 28mm f2.8 manual focus (AIS), 35 f2, 50 f1.4, 24-85 and tamron 90 macro f2.8 (nikkor 85 f1.8 is better than tamron but is not macro, of course), 80-200 f2,8 and 300 f4 plus TC. (prime lenses ar small and not heavy, the bigger are 80-200 and 300 f4). I have a doubt if leave home 80-200 f2.8 to save weight and space or to take with me.

With D800 I can crop a lot, If I need more lenght I can add TC 1.4E II nikon to 300 f4 and obtain a good 420, and in case of emergency I can add Kenko TC 2x instead of TC1.4 and obtain a 600 (just in emergency of course, due to drastic reduction of brightness and quality). 300 is not VR but I can use monopod and fast time, I don't think to have light problems (I can increase sensibility without big problems with D800 at least at 1600 or 3200 Iso with acceptable noise).

  10.
I have a Nikon D800 body.
I'm planning to go in Kenya next February (2013) for 3 days of photo safari.
I'd like photograph landscapes, animals, nature and people. Is the first time I'm going in Kenya for safari (I took photos in America national parks but never during a safari).
I have the following lenses:

I'd like take photos but also video (using the possibilities of Nikon D800 body).
Which lens I have to take with me in priority order and which can I leave at home ?
(For example, I'd like a lot 35-70 because is f/2.8 but 24-85 f/2.8-4 is more wide and has more rich colours, 80-200 f2.8 is not VR is more heavy and big and has soft and delicate colours than 70-300 that is VRII but with low brightness, 20 AF could be useful for landscapes, 35 f2 for brightness and also 50 f1.4, 85 f1.8 for people potrait, 300 with TC 1.4E could be good for animals, and what about macro lenses?).
So I'm asking to friends that have been yet in Kenya (or in other African Safari) and have a lot of experience.
Another solution is to take with me all my lenses (but I need a big bag and a Sherpa lol :) ).
I'll think also to take with me a beanbag, a mono-pod Manfrotto and a gorilla-pod (big version for reflex), not tripod.

  11.
Thanks a lot.

So, the best choice is to wait and search for a nikkor.
In case I'd like to have soon a superwide lens, not expensive, just to use sometime, I can think to buy samyang, that is not very good (like nikkor for example), but is not too expensive and it works (with distortion of course, but works fine for the price).
I think to use a wide not only to take photos but also for wide angle video footage and Samyang seems also good for video.

So Merry Christmas to all and thanks a lot for your suggestions !

  12.
I don't like a lot my nikkor 20 AF (I bought used), so I'm thinking to search a wide angle zoom.
I bought nikon D800 used (like new, but used to save money), and I'm still paying it (for one year), I'm another person that has not much budget in general, not only for lenses, lol. But I like photography and Nikon D800, also if is not yet full payed.
The question, in my opinion, is not which is better in absolute, but which is better for the use I think to do.
So If I don't think to use everyday, for my work, wide angle, Samyang, or Tokina, or Sigma, could be useful for the price they costs (even if they are worst than nikon for example).
I think I have to give a relative weight to what I consider to use each lens.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

  13.
I take photo since 1975 (my first Nikon has been Nikon FM, my old analogue Nikon was F70).
I have had old D70 and D200 and now
I Just bought D800.
On D70 and D200 I used a lot Tokina 12-24 DX Lens (that on DX is not so wide but on DX is like a 18-36)

I have for my D800 the following lenses (bought new and used in 20 years).
Nikkor: AF 20 f2.8
Nikkor AFD 24 f2.8
Nikkor AIS 28 f2.8 (old manual focus)
Nikkor AFD 35 f2
Nikkor AFD 50 f1.4
Nikkor AFD 85 f1.8
Nikkor AI 105 f2.5 (old manual focus, first version AI)
Nikkor 24-85 AFD 2.8-4
Nikkor 35-70 AFD f2.8
Nikkor 70-200 AF 2.8 ED (first old version).

Now I'd like a very wide lens. Another option could be also Samyang 14 f2.8 (prime lens) (not zoom).
I don't use filters, usually, so for me is not a problem. I'have to understand wich is better.
(Of course, I know that wider lenses have a lot of distortion, but if I don't need distorsion I don't use wide lenses but my Nikkor 35 f2.8 or 28 AIS are a very nice lenses). I like play with distorsion using it for creative purposes in some kind of photos.

  14.
I need a wide angle zoom lens form my Nikon D800.
Wich is better between
Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f2.8
and
Sigma 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 II DG HSM for D800 ?
The first one is f2.8 constant, the second one is only f4.5-5.6

I'd like to buy wich is better.

I have had yet Tokina DX 12-24 for my D200 and was a very good lens, I have ad also Sigma 30 DX f1.4
I prefer the Tokina look and I like a lot my Tokina lens, but the Sigma seems be very good.

What do you suggest between this two zooms ? Sigma or Tokina ?

  15.
I just bought a D800 (used but like new) two days ago. I checked a little yesterday and today. I checked also video.
Not problem about exposure. So, I don't understand why you have exposure problems. The video exposure of my D800 is simpy perfect. Are you shure that is working?
Of course, autofocus with video is very very slow (I mounted only AFD lenses, so not lenses with internal motor).
I think that for video I have to think different respect a normal videocamera (I have Panasonic TM300 videocamera fullHD). With D800 for video I have to think before where is the point of focus and don't pretend the fast autofocus. Is a different concept. The result for video is very good (better than my Panasonic videocamera), but is more difficult to got good videos.

  16.
Thanks! I have also a compact nikon like P6000 just to use as P&S or as backup camera.
I have not yet decided about Tamron 90. I don't know if can I have opportunity to use it (for example if I'll see plants or little animals particular)

  17.
I'have planned to travel to Cuba next maj 2010.

I have Nikon D200 Digital Camera and Videocamera Panasonic.
I'm thinking to put in my bag the following lenses.
Nikkor 16-85 VRII
Nikkor 70-300 VRII
(So I'm covered for all kind of photos).
I'm thinking also to take with me the following fixed lenses.
Nikkor 35 f2 AFD for general purpose.
Nikkor 85 f1.8 AFD for portrait to cuban people.
and Tamron Macro 90 f2.8 AFD (I don't know, but if I have the possibility to take macro should be useful)
I'm thinking to leave at home nikkor afd 24 f2.8 (I don't like really) and nikkor afd 50 f1.4 (for portrait I prefer 85 f1.8 and for general purpose I prefer 35 f2).
I think to leave at home also my zoom tokina 12-24.

Do you think that is a right selection of lenses or can I leave at home all my fixed lenses and travel only with two zooms? (I'm not shure if take only zoom to be more light or to add also two or three fixed lenses).

Do you have suggestion about wich kind of photos take in Cuba ? (tour of 1 Week in Cuba, La Havana and other locations, plus one week at Cayo Largo).

  18.
I'll go to Grand Canyon next June.
I'll bring D200, D70 body, 18-70 Nikkor, 70-300 Nikkor VRII and Tokina 12-24. With this 3 lenses I'll cover all between 12 to 300 mm of lenght. I need also some light lenses, so I'll take also 24 Nikkor AFD 2.8, 30 Sigma AFD 1.4, 50 Nikkor AFD 1.4, 85 Nikkor AFD 1.8. In this case I think to cover all lenght with nice fixed lenses and zoom.

  19. Just bought. Not yet tested, just some photos but nothing interesting.

The first impression is that VRII works very good. Not drop of light at the corner also using all opened. Very clear images, and very compact lens. I think that is a good lens, usefull in all cases in wich I need a compact lens (for travel, animals, nature photos). Of course not comparable (I think) with professional lenses but very good in my opinion. I have to test more doing a lot of photos.
