John, Another excellent photo. She is lovely as all of your models are. I like the composition with the lamp, horse and rider to the right. Seems to add to the photo rather than detract. Well done. Would you consider posting the color version? I like the black and white. Just curious. I would like to see her eyes since they are a focal point. David

John, An extraordinary photograph of a moment well captured. She reminds me of another young lady in your portfolio. Each with their own personality and beauty. She obviously trusts you and your camera and I think that makes the moment all the more beautiful. Whether posed or just a moment captured, the composition is excellent. Her eyes are captivating. For some reason, which I can not adequately describe, the cups and glasses in the wood cabinet add an extra dimension to this photo. Perhaps, I am drawn to her disheveled hair and the tilt of her head, in contrast to the neatly ordered cups and their handles. This contrast, her eyes and her pose cause me to truly admire what you have captured. Well Done, my friend, David

John. There is no question about it. You have an outstanding portfolio of amazing photographs. This one is striking. The use of the mirror to capture the different sides of her face is well done. Mirrors are often used, but you used this one to perfection. David
  1. I prefer the color version and rated the image a 7 because the model is sitting among scattered rocks. I have seen many images where nudes are posed within extraordinary landscapes and this qualifies as extraordinary. But I have seen very few with the model posed in an "uncomfortable" location when a more comfortable one is nearby. It is quite frankly what has made the image intriguing to me. She could have been posed in front of the scattered rocks and on smooth ground, but she wasn't. I do not believe she is lost within the landscape. For whatever reason, either her's or the photographer's, she is within the only "uncomfortable" area contained within the image. Therefore, she is where she wants to be. She is there by choice. Perhaps to make the contrast between her and the scattered rocks the focus of the image. So I congratulate you on an excellent image.

  2. I believe the photographs of your guitars would be better with a different background. The dirt floor and general background to me does not indicate quality. This is also my opinion concerning the other photos of your guitars. The cloth/paper drapes should not appear in the finished image, it should just be a black background. Perhaps suspending the guitar from the ceiling and at a further distance from the drapes with light just on guitar. I agree with comment above concerning contrast and lighting. Granted, it is not easy to do, but worth the effort. With guitar suspended, your model could then be behind the guitar and you could play with different angles. Best regards

  3. Mark,

Curiosity got the better of me. I think it all has to do with phototropism and gravitropism. There is another term that I came across concerning the natural spread of the tree limbs of certain trees also determining vertical growth but I can not find the term without spending a lot of time retracing my steps. Like you, I am not a botanist. I saw the effect in another photo of yours "Transition of Seasons". The flowers seem to be at an angle. At first I thought the wide angle lens may be responsible. But in any event I enjoy looking at your photos and I count several of them among my favorites.

  4. Mark,

The colors, light and atmosphere are excellent. I just could not get past the trees, especially the one in the foreground, growing out of the ground at an unnatural angle. I adjusted your photo 25 degrees counterclockwise and while the hills became horizontal, your photo still retained its excellence.

  5. I found it difficult to figure out the foreground subject matter in the vertical, although I already knew what it was, whereas the landscape in the horizontal one is clear and obvious. I prefer the horizontal. 7/7 on horizontal and 6/7 on vertical. I would crop the bottom portion of the vertical leaving just the milky way. Also the rays of light are distracting. But I believe you did a great job of capturing the milky way and for that alone it is a good photo. The horizontal is an excellent photo.
