Paul, All freedom may have dead people behind it, but not all dead people, soilders or otherwise die for freedom. A lot of brave people died to stop facism in WWII, but the USA had a chance to support Vietnam in it's desire to not be re-colonized be the French, the resulting war with the USA had nothing to do with freedom of that country or the poor souls conscripted into 'saving' it from itself. Likewise our current mess has nothing to do with freedom of the people who are being occupied, we couldn't care less. If you're wondering if I just do as I'm told...I don't fight wars to enrich Enron or Halliburton, nor do I support bastards who insist it's necessary. Just my 2 cents, nothing against sacrifice but the context has a lot to do with how I choose to view it

I like the technique, and think it is effective as far as isolating the key suject. Where/what is this, a war memorial? My thoughts as to whether 'freedom' has anything to do with dead servicemen is problematic, and with certain conflicts an absolute contradiction
  1. This is undoubtedly one of my favorite pics having seen it here for the third time. While I'm naturally inclined to cut the little guy some slack for just doing what nature hard-wired his limited faculties to do, if everyone else is going to anthropomorphize his behaviour then I'm going to join in the fun.

You sick over-sexed, perverted ball of feathers, stop humping your dead wife's corpse! What kind of demented avian freak would have sexual relations with someone while they are dying of internal injuries and continue to do so after they are dead. Sound stupid? No more so than the ridiculous sentimentality attributed to him above. Can't wait to see it again.

The color palette and tones on the foreground bird are beautiful, but the photo as a whole

looks like an obvious cut and paste composite with mismatched tones which viewed as a

whole doesn't fill me with awe. It would be an ideal composition if it was two real birds

instead of two photos trying to be one image and failing. Near perfect score from 104

    viewers? Trytobeperfect.net

Yeah, I saw dragons, up close and personal. They say they are deaf, but I'm pretty sure they were mistaking my camera's film rewind for a goat! The coral reefs were mind blowing. It isn't the most remote part of Indonesia, but it feels like the edge of the world, I hope to go back someday.

    *The Parking Lot*

Hey, look at this, a photo of the week that isn't hyper saturated, isn't trying to be a

painting, won't look good in HDR, made from one exposure, and containing no raptors,

how refreshing. Jose you have some nerve disregarding compositional 'rules' and

submitting this scene with realistic colors, you should try to be more popular;-)

I think this is a great image and worthy of discussion. I like how the vegetation in the

lower left corner is balanced out by the arc of wear on the pavement, and I think this

image needs to be static and ordered, because that's what parking lots are. The genius of

this image is turning a mundane scene into a commentary on the rhythms of our life. The

colors are beautiful, well seen, well captured.

This monk apologized to me for his tattoo he had done when he was young, but it was then

and is now one of my favorite sights I've ever seen travelling. Thanks for just being you.

  2. a house, children and a one-cow garage. Sometimes I wonder if contentment is inversely

proportional to the amount of advertising we are exposed to, and if fulfillment has anything

at all to do with material acquisition at all.
