  1. The Canon f4 lens is a superb lens - its a 'L' glass at very affordable price. Its surprisingly feel lighter too! But if you must have the f2.8 aperture, then the Sigma f2.8 HSM is definitely a good buy, for its results are not inferior to the Canon f2.8 L version.

     

    Practical Photography, the leading magazine in the UK, did a head to head comparison between these two lenses, a while ago and found the results are almost indistinguishable! You will be saving a lot of maoney as well with the Sigma. The weight of the Sigma doesn't come into equation as the Canon f2.8 is just as heavy.

     

    The only thibg you would miss is the Image Stabilisation of the Canon.

    I am planning to buy the Minolta Maxum/Dynax 5 camera which comes

    with 28 - 80mm D lens. What is your opinion about the image quality

    from this lens? I intend to use it mainly for taking indoor photos

    of family occasions and weddings with flash and casual outdoor

    photography whilst on holiday. I would be making prints of 7X5".
