I've ordered from Expresscameras.com. They're schtik is to advertise a price for an
individual item, like a D70 for only $799, but as your wife found out, when you call to
confirm they try and upsell you the "kit" saying that a battery, charger, cables, and user
guide aren't actually included with the advertised deal. I tried to refuse the upsell and say
that was find (it would have been a second body, I didn't need the other stuff again) and
they informed me that they only had the kits for now, because Nikon hadn't sent them any
camera only boxes yet. The wouldn't have one in for me for for 4-6 weeks. I cancelled
the order. I don't know if I'd call it a scam, but it's definately shady.

hmm, based on those pics, the thing looks kind of thrown together. No texture on the
vertical grip to speak of, and a small and entirely uninteresting vertical shutter release.
Makes an aesthetically pleasing camera look boxy and somewhat cheap IMHO.
Good to know it's available though, thanks for the head's up Gary.

That's a great thread Shun, you did quite the footwork, thanks for the link. Michael
Weber's review had me leaning toward the 17-55, and I think your comparisons may have
clinched it for me.

I've decided I'd like to acquire one of these lenses. I've found sparkling reviews of each,
and find myself on the fence. I shoot digital, so the DX format isn't an issue, I'll also be
getting a D2x in the near future so sharpness is paramount in my mind.
I'd love to hear opinions on this matchup. I'm also considering the 28-70 as a future
purchase, so I'd love to hear any thoughts on that lens as well.
Thank you!

Until I acquired the 70-200 VR that was my bread and butter lens. My images came out
razor sharp with it. That is of course assuming you're talking about this lens:

Between Moose, Bjorn, and the manuel download I have enough to gnaw on as I wait for
Thom to chime in, and Adorama to send my new pet out to me.

I love Bjorn's reviews, he doesn't pull his punches, and I appreciate his candor. My
associates and I have wondered whether the total lack of review and test shots was a result
of bugs causing less than stellar performance, or if Nikon simply wanted to try and storm
the market by coming out all at once with their heavy hitter. It looks like it may be the
latter, which thrills me, I can't wait to put my lenses to a real test.

An associate of mine brought this to my attention and I've never heard of it.
