My suggestion is to sit down and write out the things you like doing like bicycle ridding or hiking, playing a guitar and such, then see what you can come up with to compose these!
-
Sorry Russell, you chimed in before I finished composing mine!

You may need to furnish a bit more info, does identity mean being able to identify someone by their clothes such as police, fireman and chef, or does it mean that you have to take photos of things that give clues to your personal identity, like photos of tools if you like working on things!

That camera was a good shooter, I had owned several, but like mentioned above, they are prone to the aperture failure!
What would worry me the most in your case would be the mention of "Humidity" by the seller, you could be buying a camera and lenses that have been subjected to high humidity for some time, and might be growing fungus, so if you do buy it, check everything over carefully!

We have a similar problem here where I live!
I live about 20+ miles from Fort Wayne, In, of which has 3 camera stores, "and one of them is a Ritz" sorry to say, I wouldn't buy at any of them, even with someone else's money, instead I drive to Muncie, In "to Jack's camera" about 75 miles one way, very knowledgeable people, friendly and helpful, always the best of service!
One thing that makes a big difference at Jack's I think, is everyone who works there is a photographer of sorts, and they keep up to date on the latest and greatest of goodies, but they are not pushy!

You are correct, its from the film/sensor plane!
-
Personally, I would probably take the 24mm and slip it in a pocket as well!
-
Well, the 60 is a good off hand "in a pinch" portrait lens, its a macro for close up work, and it sets in the middle of all those that you mentioned! :O)

Head on lighting!
You do not have any light/shadow detail to work with here, you also don't mention the lens used, so I am going to guess that it was a kit lens, these are fine for everyday vacationers or mom wanting to shoot some pics of the kids at the park, but you really need to invest in some good fast lenses of at least f/2.8 or faster for portrait work, and even though you are using a flash, its still a good idea to use a tripod, it appears that you have a bit of camera shake going on here, if there is a way to get the flash off the camera, and use it for fill at an angle to one side, you will get more of a shadow/highlight detail!
Good luck!

If you are wondering why no one has come forward to answer this is because that camera is one of those ElCheapo made in China cameras found at any drug store or super markets that sell for a dollar 2.98, and especially found near theme parks at any convenience store/gas station and such for an exploded price of $29.99, its a gotcha camera, when you have accidentally forgot your camera at home, and need something in a pinch to shoot the families vacation with, these where everywhere back in the 80's and 90's!

Tony!
I was pricing the Sigma, not the 1700mm monster, I would imagine a good ways into six figures for that one! :O)
-
That doesn't even look real!
You sure that this wasn't a typo, it looks more like it would be a 2000-5000mm, weight of probably in excess of 100lbs and costing well over $20,000.oo! :op

I agree, what are you looking for?
If you want a lens that is perfectly crisp, supper sharp edge to edge at all apertures, you will be looking forever!
-
Morgan!
What so many here are trying to say is, you are approaching this purely with your head and not your heart!
Anyone can learn the mechanics of playing a musical instrument and memorize a tune, but the true artist doesn't just play a tune, they pour their heart into it, but they can only do this because the instrument or how to play it, is not on their mind!
Start simple as stated above, put just a 50mm prime lens on your camera and set it to manual, first learn everything that you can about your camera, its abilities and limits, get to know it so well that it becomes part of you, once you do this, your mind will be free to concentrate on things like composition!
Good luck!

Hmm, the best place to go in May, lets see "OUT SIDE" did I win?
No really, if you are having a hard time choosing, spread a map of the United states on a table or other surface outside, wait for the first bug to come along and land on it, note where it landed and go there!
Gotta trust nature to tell you where the best place to go is, works every time!

I have 2 that are exactly like the one that Nadine described and shows in her link, I purchased an all black one at Wal-mart, the other is identical except it has a blue seat cushion, I purchased that one at our local Dollar General store for $6.99.
