1.
I tried to unload my first pictures from Canon 5D Mark III using card reader. It was never a problem with Mark II or other cameras. This time can not see/load files from one day out of three day shooting. I see them all in camera. Tried to unload strait from Camera , but my apple do not recognize camera and Macintosh software provided with camera is not compatible with OS X software ....
Anybody can help ?

  2.
Thanks for responses. To clarify more...
I am using I MAC - Mac OS X and MacBook laptop, card reader SunDisc (imageMate 6 in 1).
I am a new Mac user and trying to use the same workflow than with PC. With PC I was creating a folder and after connecting card reader dragging photos from card reader to the folder. Didn't need any software for this .
With Mac I have the problem as reported. I will buy a new card reader since as per your suggestions it is the main suspect. It is not a card problem since it happens with each new card.

  3.
I've bought Apple computers since it was advertised as one handling better media and photos.
Big deception! The biggest is that I can not load anymore photos in normal way i.e from card reader to computer.
After loading a portion of few hundred megs it stops displays error messages , protection etc.
Then, I have to go back, establish what was loaded and go from here to load next portion.
I tried to load straight from camera using Canon software and it worked without problem, but this is not recommended and I have no control over photos (loads whole card ).
Any Apple user had this problems ? To make it interesting it I have the same problem with IMac and laptop.
Appreciate your help.

  4.
I am looking for the light and reliable tripod for travel.
Looks like the top contenders are GT1550T and GT1540 T.
Specs are very comparable with exception of weight support which is 4.5kg for GT1550 and 8kg for GT1540.
What does it mean ?
Which one is better and more reliable?

  5.
I've bought Apple since it was publicized as better handling photos and media.
However, I am dissapointed since can not smoothly load the pictures !
After loading some files to Finder (from Flash reader) get message " The Finder can not complete operation because some data
in "" could not be read or written (Error code -36).
Apple specialist suggested to do special restart and disk permission verification, but it helped only temporarily.
Should I throw my IMac away ?
Any hints ?

  6. I was there last year. Went to the English Bay at "ground zero" facing the barges. Went one hour before and still was able to go through the crowd sitting on the beach and take the first raw, just having sea water before.

Put my tripod on low level not to bother people behind me. Can see some shots on my page.

  7. Thanks Scott,

It is great to hear alternative solution with motorbike etc.

I am looking for both: temples and people (monks) which are for me extremely photogenic.

Where is the best place to get monks in more or less natural environment ?

I am planning this time to spend only 4 days , so will not have time for "exploring".

That's why advise I am getting here is invaluable.

    Thanks !!

  8. I am planning to make a short photographic trip to Cambodia , Anghor - to take pictures of famous temples and buddist

    monks.

I am shooting with Canon 5D and using 40-70 mm as base lense. Question is: what should I take as additiobnal lenses ?

Is tripod necessary ? Is there any restrictions in taking photos in Cambodia ?

    Any practical advice ?

I appreciate any information and recommendation.

  9. I am for introducing quotas, but just for ratings, not comments. As pointed out , quotas for comments might be discouraging, not every photographer is a writer.

I wouldn't worry about complaints of undeserved ratings. We are getting them all the times anyway, and whole points is to improve statistics and get ratings more reliable this way.

  10. I agree that integer numbers 4-7 are quite adequate.

I am in photonet 4th year and in spite of the last year changes to increase number of ratings (and get better, more reliable scores), recently number of ratings is very low.

Sometimes I am getting just one and no more action.

Is this something related to the queing formula ?

I also suggest not to change the scale. This is useful to benchmark relative improvement.

  11. I have similar problems with my Canon 30D. When shooting with selected central point it very often get out of focus even with sutter speed 1/100 and almost steady subject. What is the precision measure of central point ? Is this precision of measuring distance or sesitivity to contrast. If this is contrast, it looks like hit and miss since you never know you will hit the eyes/ hair or just face wihout contrast.I am not talking hear about controlled studio shooting but street or concerts etc. Anybody can clarify ?
  12. Thanks Michael and Kenneth. I was using single pont for the portrait focusing on eyes and switched to 9 points to get full body but I see it was mistake. I also noticed that evaluative metering somehow produce porr focusing ? Anyway it looks like it is not lenses to blame.
  13. I had also problem with 24-70 mm focusing, but didn't do the test (how to do this ?).

Just noticed, that when photographing standing subject slighlty from below, the face was out of focus with center weighted 9 points metering.

  14. I was using 24-70 F lenses, some studio ligthting (2x500 W lamps),in the romm without day lights, single shot AF with center -weighted metering and 9 points. Manual settings (4 and 1:50) for the aperture and shutter.I had person standing about 1 meter off the background. The face is out of focus.
