I am in the same market, still spending too long poring over dpreview articles.

Have you looked at the Panasonic TZ5 (or TZ4 which is the same with less megapixels). 10x zoom, wide 28mm, and pretty compact. Supposed to be really great.

Apparent problems:

Excessive noise reduction at ISO400+ causing blurred fine detail, but I can't work out if this is a problem I will notice.

Not great for night/flash social setting apparently.

Cheaper than the G9. I would get the G9 if it had a 28mm wide.

Thank you for these posts and advice. I am also trying to make these hard choices and you

have really helped. I am going for the sigma. Or am I? Yes. Er... eek! Oh, for goodness

sake, I'm not even that good a photographer, does it even matter? Then why is this so

hard?....(repeat to fade...)
