Does the simple composition and angle to maximize DOF work? Comments
and critiques welcomed. Thanx!

Shot under harsh sunlight without fill flash but does it work?
-
These tiny birds hardly ever keep still. I shot this fella through
some vegetation which ended up helping to framing the bird.

Some nitpicks:
1. The shadows on the flowers are too harsh and end up kinda distracting (especially the vertical one that cuts across the center of the frame)
2. You should crop it a little to remove the bits of "other orchid cores" at the bottom left and top center of the frame. They are also kinda distracting
3. There's no real point of focus in the shot. If you want to show the whole flower, try to isolate one and give it some space. If you want to show the core, you need to get closer (try using extension tubes on your zoom lens).

Found this rather obliging subject on a leaf but it caught me off
guard as I didn't have my flash or monopod handy. I had no choice but
to go for a shallower DOF to be able to handhold this shot.
