<p>Oh, one thing I failed to mention.<br /> In "print preview" colours are way off, though the actual prints are as described.... somewhat duller than the softproof. In "Print Preview" the reds turn magenta for example.<br /> Not sure if it shows I have slipped up somewhere or not but it is something else that struck me odd.</p>

<p>Thanks, Peter.<br>
I gave it a quick read. Most of it I have seen on Eric's 3800 page. I will look at the parts I haven't seen before in more detail tomorrow. Getting on bedtime here;)</p>

<p>Already done;) They don't colour manage my prints.</p>
-
<p>Thanks. I will have a photo printed at a photo lab I trust, compare it with a 3800 print I just made, and go from there.</p>

<p>Yes, Eizo calibrated with a Spyder2pro.</p>

<p>Yes, Patrick. Newly bought printer.</p>

<p>I am printing using Windows Vista with a Maxart PX-5800 (which is the Japanese version of the 3800). I am printing with Epson Crispia Glossy paper (no idea if they sell it elsewhere but it is a high grade gloss), chose Epson Crispia glossy as the media type and am also using the Crispia profile. Colour management is set to allow Photoshop CS4 (version 11.0.1) to control and is turned off in the printer box. I set the print to high quality 2880. In soft proof I set the custom to Crispia and it does show as duller than my calibrated Eizo monitor. The colours on the actual prints are even duller than the proof and have no pop where the non-proofed image just pops.<br>
I am wondering if there is something I may have forgotten to check or uncheck which might be the reason for the lack of pop. That, and if there is a way to make the image print more as it appears on the monitor.<br>
Your help would be greatly appreciated.</p>

<p>Thanks, Bill<br>
I didn't see any papers I am interested in, however I appreciate the effort. I mailed Hahnemuhle and, as expected, they responded that they don't distribute A2 to the USA. As with many products, there are often ways people can get their hands on them. That is what I was hoping I would end up finding;) Thanks again.</p>

<p>I had a look at Amazon but didn't see any A2 size paper on the UK site, German site, nor the USA site. Would you still have the link to the Amazon page you saw? A look at eBay was the same. I saw A3 and A4 on the European sites but no A2.</p>

<p>I've ordered goods loads of times from BH and through various eBay sellers. Duties and taxes weren't an issue. Minimal if charged at all. It is one good thing about ordering to Japan from abroad .... at least so far.</p>
-
<p>I am looking for shops in the USA with an online presence that sell A2 size paper and will deliver to Japan. I would like Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre, Harman Gloss FB AL, and some of the Hahnemeule and Epson lineup. My main search is A2 at the moment, however I am looking for A3 and A4 as well.<br>
I can get all those papers here through Japanese sellers but the prices are just crazy, at least compared to the 17"x22" I can order from BHphotovideo. The benefit of BH is that shipping costs go up at a reasonable scale with bulk orders so the price differences are really big overall. They just don't have A2.<br>
Actually, since it is better prices I am searching for, sourcing A2 paper from anywhere in the world with competitive pricing and shipping would be great.</p>
<p>Thanks</p>
<p>As an example af the price differences I will post the prices from a Japanese Shop for A2 vs BHphotovideo.</p>

I have a similar problem. Using two Vivitar 285HV off camera flashes, one synched to the camera with a ssynch cord. But the flash with the Wein peanut doesn't flash.
The Vivitar 285HV will flash using the Wein Peanut (I have the digital) if I allow my Canon 30D popup flash to fire.
I have read that the Wein requires 5V whereas the 285HV supplies only 4.5V.

Sorry, I meant Dave rather than Steve. Sorry.

Steve, I saw your webpage yesterday but now when I look it says I need authorisation. I am going to Cambodia (I think) while on a trip to Thailand over the winter holidays and was looking into your site for help.

Thanks. I decided to go with the S2411W.

I have had my eye on an Eizo monitor for a while. I just saw a sale of Eizo
monitors on the website for a Japanese electronics shop I buy from.
I am wondering if anyone can see from the specs whether one of these two models
is better suited to photo editing than the other. There are some differences and
I am sure either would be great but I may have missed something that made one
better than the other. I can't afford the CG or CE series. I'd be using it soley
for photo editing as I am not into gaming or watching DVDs etc on my computer.
I was pretty set on the Eizo S2431W
(http://www.eizo.com/products/lcd/s2431w/index.asp) which is more or less a
stripped version of the HD2441W, a High definition gaming and entertainment
ready monitor. In Japan I can get it for 98,000yen ... or about $750US (plus I
get about $120 in points to use at the store at a later date).
With the sale the Eizo S2411W
(http://www.eizo.com/products/lcd/s2411w/index.asp) is also interesting. It
comes in at 116,800 yen (US$1,000) plus I get about $140 in points.
Hoping to hear your thoughts about these monitors.

Tom,
Would you have that solution handy? If so, could you post it here. I have the same problem. The colours I see when I edit and convert to sRGB in Photoshop CS2 is different from the final saved sRGB jpeg. We are heading into the weekend and I haven't gotten a response from Colorvision other than to say they received the request.
-
Colorvision replied for me to contact BH to sort it out. Also they confirmed that the cds that come with the product are not sealed (as I believe they should be).
I sent the Spyder back to BH and they replaced it. The box for the new one had it seals cut and a second set put on top. I don't know if it is a restock or if BH opened the box the check. In any case it was replaced.
-
Has anyone had this happen with theirs, new out of the box?
My New?? Spyder2 Pro calibration tool has scratches on it. I ordered it from
B&H, a very reputable company I haven't had any problems with.
My Spyder Pro2 by Colorvision just arrived. The package seemed to have its
natural seals (clear circular stickers top and bottom). When I cut the seal and
opened the box I found the top of the Spyder2 all scratched up like it had been
sitting upside down on a table and spun around. It doesn't look like it is a new
product placed into the box from the factory line. I can think of no reason for
a new product to have so many scratches. Pretty upsetting to think about what
else potentially happened to this product before receiving it. The CDs included
don't have seals that need to be broken so I can't tell if they have been used
before.
I already wrote both BH and Colorvision but this being a weekend don't expect a
return mail for a few days.

This question needs a little more information. Do you have a computer? Is it a desktop or notebook? What operating system? Do you plan on making backups of your photos with a computer that you already have? Everyone should be doing this anyway. I am guessing that is what you are thinking of. Do you plan on taking it on trips to make backups (necessitating a computer)? If you plan to take it on trips, a portable hard drive like the Epson p-2000 would be good, but it is a hard drive not a burner. If you are planning to make backups of all your photos it would be best to go to a shop and check. There are lots of writers out there.

I live in southern Japan and have never been to Takayama. I have been to Kyoto/Nara several times. You will love it. As to Takayama I did find this link, which may answer a lot of your questions. It is in English.
good luck.
