Frank, speaking as an artist and portrait painter, your portrait of Hanna is perfect and lovely as it is, and I completely disagree with Martin about the background question. You have a dynamic and strong composition. I appreciate the implied depth of space accentuated by the statue, and justifying the intimate close-up positioning and cropping of Hanna. The lamp as an echo to Hanna's head, implies compositional motion as well, adding interest. I think this portrait would be too static and might lack some of it's compelling emotional depth without your included background subtext. I love the color relationships and affinities too. The intense color works beautifully with the intense expression. Well done!

Cool shot for a hot week! It makes me want to go down there and set up my easel for a painting.

Great image!
Rosa, I have generated a three-dimensional variation of your image as an experiment, and I think you will like it.
Cross your eyes to join the two images as a perfect overlap, and the result is a perfectly symmetrical reflection that jumps out at you, much as you saw it originally in life.

Interesting shot, Keith. Your image has personal significance to me as I sculpted the original concept for this equestrian monument between 1988 and 1991. Thanks for posting this.

Great image!
If you could introduce a natural feeling supportive shadow just to the right of the sheep, I think the illusion would work even better.

Duane, you have done exceedingly well in a very tight space. I know how hard it is to capture this facade. It's impossible to get it all!

Duane, I love this image. You have really captured the essence of one of my favorite houses. I don't think this could be any better.

This is wonderful. I like this. Now I know your place is haunted! Very creative!

Michiel, being Birdy

Frank, this is a very interesting and powerful composition. I love the way you have emotionally balanced the space. There is a strong diagonal versus horizontal interplay in the composition that enhances the emotional content. One can imagine a diagonal line from the light source, passing Michiel's eye and continuing down his sloped back. The large blackened shadow on the left edge echoes and ties into his form. I like that!
