Jim and Michael,
Thank you both. Interesting about the B & H 'kit'. I expect the 2 gig SD card should work then. As far as the HDSD goes, that clearly is called out as a feature for the SD800 IS. No mention in any specs I've seeen for application with the SD700 IS. Maybe it's an undocumented SD700 IS feature...

I have downloaded both the 'Basic' and 'Advanced' manuals from Canon's web site
for the SD700 IS camera. Read DPreview's report and many owner feedback
messages as well.
Cannot find if the SD700 IS is capacity limited for SD memory cards. I think
that a 2 Gig SD card would be great with the SD700 IS for maximum flexibility,
if it is supported. With the prices dropping on 2 Gig SD memory cards, it seems
like a good match now that the SD700 IS can be had for under $300.00. Have you
tried 2 Gig SD memory cards with the SD700 IS? What works, and what doesn't
work? Thanks

Finally, December to March for the rebates. Only one intervention to get them kick started. Don't think I'll being playing this game again.

Don,
Thanks again!
Sorry, I should have clarified that prior to my initial post I had searched for my scanner profile on the Noise Ninja site. I did previously download the NN color target as well.
Looks like I need to look more closely at the Neat Image product offering.
Thanks for the support.

Don,
Thanks! I subsequently found out elsewhere that Noise Ninja does work as PSE 5 Plug-in. Have not found out much more though.
I am leaning to the Home 'Bundle' right now. It works at 16 bit but only saves files as 8 bit. That's OK for post conversion because PSE 5 is more feature enabled at 8 bit.
Still have no insight on Scanner profiles...

There's actually another 'George Thomas'?

Canon EOS 5. This has never, ever failed me. No problems with the Command Dial as many have claimed. Bought it new December, 1993 after my 1976 purchsed AE-1 suffered heavy water damage. (Still have one of my sons' student T60 bodies and I am selling off the remains of my Canon FD lenses, etc.) I still use the EOS 5 because it produces beautiful images and I am able to scan my slides into PSE 5 with my KonicaMinolta Dimage Scan Dual IV. I really, really, really want a new Canon 5D body as a digital replacement, but the upgrade cost is way too much.
-
Both are Canon and have IS but what is different to have current prices at $299
vs $399 respectively? The SD700 is 6Mps and effective lens of about 35-140,
whereas the SD800 is 7.1Mps with a wider 28-105 lens. I thought I read
(somewhere) that the SD700 body is metal while the SD800 is not metal. I also
read complaints about visible 'soft' corners with the SD800 from 28-35mm range.
On the surface it appears to be a better buy to get the SD700 IS, your comment
please.

What is your alternate/backup/pocket camera when you want to travel light and
the Canon EOS systen is too much? Currently my EOS 5 alternate is a well used
early 2Mps Nikon Coolpix 775 and I am looking for an upgrade sometime this
year. The little Coolpix frequently gets stuffed into my briefcase for work
travel or in my tank bag on the motorcycle.

Glad to hear you got the fulfillment. I also did an intervention over two weeks ago with Canon and my rebate status moved from step 1 to step 3 overnight. It has remained frozen at step 3 ever since...

Well today is 2/19/2007 which I believe is the end of the current Canon Rebate
purchase elgibility and I did not buy a Canon digital body. (In December I
picked up the 85 f/1.8 and the 70-200 f/4L lenses, still waiting for rebate
processing- even after an intervention).
I can afford the 30D with 2X rebates, but I just cannot get over the loss of
wide angle capability with my 20-35 f/3.5-5.6 lens with the 30D 1.6 crop. I
still use my EOS 5 film body and overall my favorite images tend to be on the
wide angle end of things, so the 5D would do it for me as a DSLR except for
the high cost vs the 30D. I could not resolve this conflict so even the 2X
rebates did not induce me to buy a Canon digital body at this time. Anyone
else take a pass on the current Canon rebates?

I have the trial version of Noise Ninja and it appears to help with some of my
problem scanned images that I process through PS Elements 5. Questions: Which
NN version do you use 16 bit "Pro" or 8 bit "Home"? Where would you apply NN
to RAW files? Is there a Plug-in NN for PS Elements 5 or should I use the
stand alone application with PSE 5? Where in your work flow do you apply NN?
(Currently I scan slides at 16 bit tiff, then make global PSE 5 adjustments at
16 bits and thereafter save as 8 bit tiff for detail processing or jpeg for
web/print.) Does anyone one have NN film/scanner profiles for the
KonicaMinolta Dimage Scan Dual IV? Thanks!

I still use my 1993 Canon EOS 5, no problem whatsoever.

Thursday AM update... It's now back to step three again indicating a check is being processed for approval and the icons have changed. I printed the Canon rebate web page for records in case it decides to go backwards again.
-
Update as of 11:00 AM Tuesday... Now the Canon web site shows that I have returned to Step 1, Internet Submission waiting for my Mail Submission. WTF?
-
Update as of 10:00 PM Central Time! My Canon rebates were "found" and now I have zoomed from step one to step three,'Processing', in a single bound.
-
Just called the number. Here's the background: I did the internet submission for two lenses prior to Christmas and thereafter I physically sent my Canon rebates in USPS Priority Mail on 12/28/2006. My USPS delivery confirmation indicates acceptance in El Paso, Texas on 1/8/2007. (That amount of time seems a bit odd in and of itself for Priority Mail.) Anyway the Canon rebate site still shows the Rebate Center as waiting for my "Mail Submission".
Today 'Erin' at the rebate number said that my information is still not in the system and that if there is no change, I should call back in two weeks... Yes I will.

Started to scan in my new 35mm Fuji Christmas 2006 slides (first tryout of the
Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens) only to find the slide developer left a scratch line
through two entire film roles (36 + 24 slides).
I have PS Elements 5.0 and I am seeking advice on how best to eliminate the
scratch line on my photos. The scratch line runs through faces, objects, etc.
What is the best, most efficient method to recover my family holiday slides?

I have the IP6600D printer and I have not been able to determine from the
manual, software or Canon's site if this is a 300 DPI capable printer. Does
anyone know where this specification is located or if the printer is, in fact,
a 300 DPI capable model?
-
Hugo,
I have the same scanner and I use it with PS Elements 5.0 but I have not seen any reference to the "Ekta Space" for color space. Where is this in the Scan Dual IV manual?
The only color space reference I see is on pages 80-81, "Output color spaces" and I use sRGB for all slide types including Fuji Sensia and PS Elements 5.0 is also set to sRGB. ICC Profile monitor setting is on pages 82-83 and I have that set to my MultiSync 95 CRT.

Thanks All,
Decided on the SD700 IS from Amazon.com for $297.13 and a Kingston 2 gig SD card + reader for $17.99 from newegg.com.
