  1. I recently picked up a copy of "Photoshop User Magazine" I was impressed, a ton

of information and they had a section dedicated to Lightroom, which I thought

was kinda cool. I was just wondering if there is any members of NAPP on

Photo.net? I don't mind going to Barns & Noble to pick up an issue each month,

but in the mag. there is ads to join the NAPP and list all the member benefits

ie. discounts, seminars, magazine subscription ect. If anyone is a member is

the $99 a year worth the money? Any pros and cons? Are the discounts legit?

    Thanks to all.

  2. Edward,

I'm using this style for my file naming:

    "20070808-lighthouse-0001.jpg"

Seems to be working so far. All my photos are stored in a file named "Digital Photography" and all the subfolders in that file are by the year the pics were taken. I just recently went to this format (last couple of days) before I had all my photos all over the place, not really organized, I was depending on Picasa to organize for me. When I made any changes to a file in Lightroom it created a new folder in Picasa and it was driving me crazy. Thats why I'm giving up on Picasa. Thanks for your input. My apologies go out to Christopher for taking over this thread with my own questions. Thanks everyone.

  3. I'm doing the re-import to add Metedata, rename files and get rid of some that I don't need. Thats only the real reason I've been doing the re-import. Now, if I don't need to do that, thats great. I know I can rename the files (F2) and add metedata so I guess I have been wasting time. Thanks.

I'm relocating to one file and then in that file I have all my subfolders. When I first started with my external hard drive I had no idea what I was doing, now that I do, know what I'm doing that is, I'm moving everything to this one file (Digital Photography). Do I just need to do a drag and drop and then have Lightroom find the files? If thats the case all the editing will be saved?

  4. I was doing the same thing (only with Picasa not iphoto) Did some research on-line and then some playing around with Lightroom. I found that you can Import from file and then change the settings to Move to new location and import. Great feature. I have the same question you do though. If the file is already in Lightroom, I haven't been able to relocate the file to my new location (promps that image is already in lightroom import cancelled) I've only been able to remove the files from Lightroom and then import them to my new location. So if there is a tiop or trick out there in order to keep all my edits send that info my way. Thanks!
  5. I've just purchased CS3 extended, and I'm axiously awaiting its arrival in the

mail (just 2 days to go!) My question is this. As of right now I'm using Picasa

to import my photos onto my harddrive. (I like this program because my wife

finds it very easy to use to view photos of our daughter. I too, like its

organizational features.) I then bring the photos I need to edit into

lightroom. Will Adobe Bridge replace picasa for me? What is the main purpose of

this program. I've never seen it in action. Any info would be great. Feel free

to rip me apart if this makes no sence. Thanks

Hang around and contribute to the community, comment on photos, ask and answer questions in forums, etc. Then you will get good, meaningful critiques of your pictures. I see you do weddings and portraits. Go hang out in the Weddings and Events forum and see what you can learn. Then you might ask for a critique of your wedding work over there.

BRAVO! Well said and so true.
