Thanks for the help. Would like to stay at least in the 0 to +10 range as a minimum. Have used the plastic bag even with some night sky shoots when it gets down into the 40's. In northern Minnesota the humidity is usually high so will continue to protect as before. Thanks again!

I live in northern Minnesota. Last night the temperature was -53
degrees. I don't spend a lot of time outside in that weather, but I
would like to shoot under a little more temperate conditions (hockey
games, ski races, landscapes). I've looked for ways to use my 10D
under cold conditions and have not had anyone say anything other
than "don't do it" - including Canon itself. No one says why. Is it
just battery performance? Or can I do damage to the ciruitry and
shutters? Any product or homemade device that protects the camera
under those conditions where you might be able to use it?<div>
