Adrian,
That "3D effect" is due to careful focusing and that excellent bokeh of the lens.

Mr. Junker
There is NO possibility that the lens could be a match for the body. All the Summaron 35mm lenses were post WWII
The camera may or may not be a "liberated" war trophy, but not the lens.

Kirkwood--- The nearest Leica store is over 100 miles away.
Ron--- I would INSIST on buying the one I tested. I would NEVER buy a known unreliable item without trying it out. And absolutely not by mail
order,leaving me with a $5000 boat anchor.

Just like there was no MG TE between the TD and the TF (tee hee)
Actually Leitz skipped the "e" and went to "f" for FLASH.

Leicaphiles,
Having a rare Saturday off, I went down to our (only) Leica dealer to see what
was available
and to check out the M8. I bought a beautiful CL and a TE 90 at good prices.
I also asked
to see the new M8. I offered to buy a memory card (is that the correct
term?) so I could
mount my lenses and try it out in the store. I would take the card home and
check it out in my
computer.
The sales person said, in effect, ; "No way, the people who want to buy our M8s
, want to buy
them sealed"
I had considered myself a good customer, having spent over $20,000 for Leica.,
Rollei and
H'blad stuff at their two stores.
They suggested that I go to a shop that is having "Leica Days" where I could
bring my lenses
and try out their demo M8.
Should I continue to deal with them?

David,
Yes, there area few good camera shops in Dublin. But their prices for Leica gear are quite high. No rarities, no bargains.

Remember also that the 3.4 SA cannot be used with metered function in M Leicas including the M8. The Elmarit 21/2.8 is a superb lens.
I don't think you are missing anything in that deal. Take it! The only
advantage of the SA is it's relative compactness.

Paul,
I will definitely be there, in that case. I live just up the hill from
there.

Please tell me why I need to have my 135mm Elmarit encoded? I thought that it would only help wide angle lenses

Feng et al,
I dunno about you guys but my M6 does NOT have an "off" position on the shutter dial. I do have a "Rose" switch on the battery cover.
Could all of you been confused and thinking of a M6TTL?

John und Karl,
I wonder which one of you is the owner of a new M8?
Don't bother to tell us.
Jerry

Ron,
It may be of value to a collector. As a shooter it is the same crappy
Woolensock lens that was used on cheap American cameras of the 1040's, such as the Detrola or Perfex.
Jerry
-
Rik,
Does the lens have a focusing tab?
Jerry
-
Amber,
Did you ever consider using an external exposure meter? They really work!
Jerry
-
Bill,
Are you angling for someone to bring up that phrase "Leica Glow"?
Jerry

Leica Netters,
You think that the writers here are too contentious for you? Then go to the LUG (Leica Users Group and join in.
That group has a few superb picture contributors. The rest are a group of sycophants. Just a bunch of ass kissers who constantly ooh! and ahh~ over the works of the few. And they do it over and over again. Nobody will call a spade, "a spade".

David,-- Even the cheaper type of accessory shoe will tell us that it is a IIf.
Jerry
-
Afzal,-- Regardless of their grammatical and spelling errors, both Bill and Roger are correct.
-
Al,-- I am totally turned off also. I have a M4 black and a M6 chrome that nust be 20 to 40 times as old as the ZI shown. Used regularly. Only
a little brassing on the black one, and a few shiny spots on the chrome.
Cameras use for months in Japan, England, Israel, France and the wilds of La Jolla. No other wear shown.
Buy the M4 and Rigid Summicron shown in earlier message. Better than any new ZI.
Can you imagine; silver paint on plastic??

EDWARD,-- You saw the leader of the film when you loaded it, didn't you?
Or did you have your Seeing Eye Dog load the film for you?
There is NFW that you could have missed that. Emulsion is very visible on the leader.
-
Joe,-- If you don't use the aux finders, you are not composing your photos. Hence those tilted horizons and cut off heads you must get.
-
Antinio,-- While I do use my 35-7-mm on my R-4 a lot, I would much prefer a 100mm or so lens for head und shoulder portraits.
Now if I could only get a 105mm f2.5 Nikkor in a Leica R mount----!

Mark,-- Forgive me for asking, but how will knowing the MTF of a lens help us to take better pictures?
-
Stuart, I no longer have any M3 or M2, only M4 and M6. I never had any
contact 'tween the lever and dial. Of course I was never so clumsy as to let the lever snap back.

Filter thread size difference Canon RF glass

Steve,
You will find that your Leica und Nikkor 50mm lenses with 43mm diameter filter threads, have DIFFERENT thread pitches.
