I really like this image, Amy -- the exposure of the face is right on, and the composition and pose are very pleasing.  The only constructive criticism I can offer is to choose your point of focus carefully -- it looks to me like your friend's teeth are in sharper focus than her eyes.  (They're not out of focus per se, they're just not tack sharp, and the mouth looks a little sharper)  The eyes are almost always the spot a viewer instinctively looks for sharp focus.  At f1.8, the depth of field is very narrow, so if you want her eyes as sharp as they can be, that needs to be where you focus.   Other than that, super job!

Things I like: You've done a wonderful job with the exposure, and the eyes in particular are really stunning.  Colors and pose are excellent as well.

Things that raise questions for me: The "aura" (for lack of a better word) around the kids is a little distracting -- is this a composite with the background added later? The kids are so natural looking, and the background, to me, is the opposite.  Also, if you were making post-production edits to the image, why leave the scab (or whatever it is) on the boy's nose? Again, to my eye, it's an unnecessary distraction.

    Otherwise, bravo!

Thanks, Roland! These are truly unique boats -- the Idem class, all-wood gaff rigged sailers designed in the 1930s and raced only on Upper Saint Regis Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.  Only 12 were built, and I think 11 are still racing (the 12th is in a museum).

    Thanks again,

    Pete

I think this image is virtually perfect, with one small suggestion -- the pink silk of the dress is distracting to me, especially since the seams and stitching are so sharply visible. Also, a little of her left arm is also visible, which also draws the eye away from her face and figure. I would suggest cropping up from the bottom of the image to just above the "points" of the pink portion of her dress.

Otherwise, it's close to perfect. Nicely done!

What a great portrait, Tiffany -- a great pose, lovely lighting and a wonderful contrast between the two expressions. The hats are a nice touch, too...

P.S. Thanks so much for your kind words about my shot of Copenhagen's "pacifier tree" on today's Wednesday thread.

At first, I thought this was a band photo, but then I looked closer and realized it's a family portrait (did I get it right?). Very imaginative take on the subject! My only critique would have to be about the boy on the left -- you captured everyone else's faces, but his is all but lost (due to the direction he is facing and the lighting), and the crop is a little bit tight on that side. Otherwise, it's terrific, and I'm sure the family was delighted.
