1) 17-55mm/f2.8
2) 70-200mm/f4 IS
and if possible, better would be 15-85mm (instead of 17-55mm which will have an overlap with 70-200mm). I am currently living in south of India (of course, I am an Indian) and having many short trips to many places during the weekends like temples, palaces, parks etc. I always feel that 17-55mm is wide enough. I generally carry 17-55mm and 70-200mm and, mostly use 17-55mm. Sometimes I feel like having a lens which is little wider and little longer than 17-55mm.
Cheers!
Avijit
Update: Carrying a laptop might be a pain during the summer. Get lots of memories.

Hi Nima,
I have also recently moved from Beijing, China to Bangalore, India. And I have Canon 450D, 70-200mm/4L, Canon 100mm/2.8 macro non-IS, Canon 17-55mm/2.8. I just keep all the lenses and camera in standard cabinet in Lowepro bags. Actually humidity is not so much here (I am originally from east of India where humidity generally stays above 80% and can reach 100%). I have not found any problem in Bangalore. If you think that you need protection, put the camera and lenses in an air tight box with dried silica gels.

I have Canon 17-55mm/f2.8 which is an excellent lens, specially for low light. I will always recommend this lens. Otherwise 15-85 is also a very good choice and covers a very nice range compared to 17-55, the only downside is that it is a bit slow and has variable aperture.

I have the following with 450D:
1) Canon 100mm/f2.8 macro (non-L)
2) Canon 70-200mm/f4L IS and finally
3) Canon 17-55mm/f2.8
All of them are very good performer on 450D. I dont feel the urge to buy any more lens for now (at least).

I only use DPP but did not yet try the 3.8. It seems that I must try the new version.

I am shocked and sad. He was very nice and spiritual man. May his soul rest in peace.

I have Canon 17-55mm which is indeed a very good lens, especially if you shoot in low light conditions. But you mentioned that you generally work in good-light conditions. IMHO 15-85mm will be a good choice which gives you more range and some extra dollars in pocket.

This was my first DSLR. I still have mine, use it rarely though. The shutter button has become somewhat non-responsive. Also must admit, I enjoyed the camera a lot.

Seeing is believing. Try both the lenses and then compare. 70-200mm is absolutely stunning.

Thanks Gil! I agree with you, it indeed looks very good.

Did anybody get a chance to use this lens? I am torn between this and Canon EF-S 17-55mm/f2.8 IS and tempted towards Tamron because of the price. Please let me know.

29th October as per Tamron press release...

Hi Yang,
It's great that you've come forward and replied to my post. Yes, I know that you have kept my name.
I would have no problem to give my photos to be published, but make sure that you acknowledge that and take a permission from me by email.
Cheers!

I am currently living in Beijing, China and most of all my photographs on this site are taken in China. Out of curiosity, I googled myself and to my utter surprise, I have found the following Chinese web page:
http://www.lvtu8.com/viewnews-92438.html
All these photographs are taken from my "Butterflies..." folder from my photo.net profile. Lazily I did not put copyright inforation on any of these photographs. And in anyway, it's not too tough to remove the copyright information.
My question is: what should I call this? Is this copyright violation or just stealing? Is there anything I can do to prohibit this? As you can see, the website is in Chinese, I cannot even write to them.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the link:

Amazon says that new Tamron is $649.

Thank God I did not buy Tamron 17-50mm (non-VC) or Canon 17-55mm/2.8 IS USM! I am really looking forward to it. Hope that this lens would receive even better reviews than its predecessor.

I have the same set up. The Canon EF 100mm/2.8 macro is probably the best value for money. I absolutely recommend the lens. Being an EF lens, it would be usable on FF cameras too and it would rather give you a better working distance than Canon EF-S 60mm/2.8 lens. If you want, you can check my portfolio. There are many flower shots and macro shots using this lens.

Yes, you can get the effect digitally but it is more easily achieveable by using your lens wide open. If you feel like, check in my lotus album. I have done post processing but only limited to cropping, sharpness, brightness and constrast adjustment and in most of the cases, I have mentioned that too. Most of the photographs are taken using Canon 100mm/2.8 macro lens at 5.6. I prefer early morning for flowers and sometimes use spot metering.

Hi,
I am planning to buy the Benro M-228n6 4-section tripod, carbon fiber and KS-1 ball head.
I am looking forward to use it with Canon450D/Canon50D and Canon 100-400mm lens at the most. Does anybody have experience or feedback on this? Will it be able to hold this set up comfortably?
Thanks

Mysore is certainly bearable in summer, there's not much to worry. I had been there during summer. Humidity is okay. Just dont drench your camera and lenses in the rain. Wish you a nice trip and happy clicking.

Consider Canon XSi or T1i with Tamron 17-50mm/2.8 lens instead of the kit lens.
