Very good! You could frame this one. The only thing I would criticize is the green grass that takes up the bottom 1/3. If you moved forward you might be able to get something more interesting down there. I like it as it is.
  1. The picture is great first off. The Digital Rebel should be able to show more depth of field with the building in front. Maybe it would be better to crank the film up to ISO 400 instead of 100 so the aperature could be closed more. Maybe it is just lighting. I could see this being a local postcard picture.
  2. This one and sailing away - are you a professional? I think they are well done. The hills may tell a story that you want to tell so I don't want to criticize it too much, however I don't see the point in it. I don't want you to misunderstand, the picture is fine - exposed correctly, focus and so on, however there should be a point to the picture.

Good picture. I think the shutter exposure is too long, the water looks like silk as a result. Most camera's today will allow you to put a priority on the shutter, shorten the time. Not too much, however. If the time is too short the water will look like glass. You may loose depth of field doing that as well.
  3. Hey Steve, Sorry about that 1/1 someone gave you, there are tough people all around us. Critics everyplace sometimes. Don't let it get you down. The picture is very well done I think. It even has a 3-d effect. Don't worry about the cars in the foreground with blury lights. They are that way because they are moving faster relative to your angle than the others are. I like some motion and that is just right. You can still tell it is a car.

    Reflection

Not sure if there is anything you could do about it, but the reflection shows nice and clear legs.... and then whoa! Stuff in the water? Maybe a skim job would be apropos. BTW it looks like she might be locking her knees. That will catch up to her when she gets older if she is (ouch!). Your right in that I think it would look better landscape. Good shot though.

Seems dark. I pulled it into Gimp and set brightness to 82 and contrast to 92 and it looked a lot better. Maybe when it was digitized from the slide it did it too dark? 82,92 may be too much though. Maybe 56,65 is closer to what it really was like? The clouds don't look right. I'm fairly sure my monitor is right because commercial pictures - Washington Post, NY Times, Electronic Telegraph and so on all look like I'm there. I think I'd try to get rid of the branches at the top as well. It does however add character to it. This would make a good wall hanger.
  4. Don't listen to that guy, the W is just as appropriate as "Olin Mills" or any other studio that insists on putting their mark on peoples paid for pictures. I didn't even notice it was there until I read the other comment. She draws me in like a magnet! A face that could launch a thousand ships.... at least from that picture. Excellent!
  5. F8,8sec,400iso???? I feel I may not be worthy of comment then! I know how hard it is to do exposures like that. I haven't done an 8 second exposure with a digital camera like this yet. If it was a film camera, I think I'd try 9 or 10 seconds. With F8,8,400 it must have been fairly dark though. The trouble is that the light can change by the second when the sun is where it is. This is probably as good or better than anyone else could do, amature, or professional.
  6. Ahh! I feel like I'm getting cut off! the black in the edges make me feel like it is closing in on me. Look quick or it is gone! Wide angle just doesn't work in this case. The ORS doesn't look right, looks too fat at the base.
