Is vignetting correction done pre-capture or post-capture, how does the Jpegs compared to the RAWs of the same scene? Also, if a coded lens is not in the database of the processing algorithm, say a Canon 50/0.9 coded to a read as a Noctilux, how would the picture turn out to be?

Rene, I like what I see! What lens did you use on these?

"They come in handy for Post-Processing and obviously for cropping..."
I'm with John on this one. IMPO, the biggest draw of more pixels is cropping. Couple of years ago, I used to tote along a D2H for birding, but sometimes, even with 400mm, things can get really small and the extra pixels will come in really handy...
-
Vivek, now you got me thinking about the D200!

A gentleman at clubsnap has placed an order for the UVIR camera. According to his data, the camera is able to capture between 380-400nm!
Another thing to think about is the effect of IR contamination on the UV side since IR is now improve to the range of 1000nm!
I knew about UVIR when I bought the R-D1s, but can't resist the temptation of using lens like the JML 50/3.5 and other interesting LTM lenses like the Orion-15, Nikkor 25/4 (if I can afford one that is :), etc... Besides, the R-D1s does work as well as the D70 and lenses are easily calibrated for UV.
-
I guess it really depends on what people would take "outstanding image quality"to mean. Personally, I do prefer the look of older lenses and I draw a distinction between what is technically good and pictorially good. Incidentally, my latest Leica (a 50lux asph) is my least used lens but I absolutely adore my 35lux pre-asph when using wide open...
To answer your question, I do have various lenses for various purposes. 50mm for example, I have a EL-Nikkor callibrated only for UV, a JML callibrated for infrared, a Noct for people, a Sonnar for general use ... yet to find a use for the 50lux, LOL :)

Great idea, Rene. This is a great thread!!!

Hi Guan-Leong, it is actually in Geylang Bahru :)

Thanks, Peter :) These are scanned neg (with a Coolscan V).

Hi Jack, the DOF will be the same with film or digital.
Film at 1600 is indeed quite grainy, but no more than what's on 1600 b/w film.
-
Hi Jack, the second shot was taken at ISO 1600, 1/11s @f4.5. No flash and handheld. I use the headlights from the oncoming traffic to light up the subject.
Vivek is correct about vignetting. To be fair, use film (esp. slides) and the vignetting is there as well. With film, the scene will have a more dramatic perspective though.
R-D1s has very low noise at high ISO, so in this regard, the R-D1s has some advantages over film, even the Fuji Natura. Finally, it is a breeze to correct the colour-balance of a digital shot.
-
Aye, it is always better to see it in action :) From what I can gather, the front element is sitting a fair bit behind, will a U-filter causes vignetting?
-
Thanks, Rene :)
Vivek, I've not try any 21mm as I don't have an appropriate viewfinder. I'm at the bottom of the learning curve and it will be awhile before I can gestimate the framing ... and ooohh, the W-Nikkor!!! Can seems to find one anywhere :( At least now I know that if I find one, it will work :)

It's been a week since I got my R-D1s and I've been shooting with it on and
off. I have to say, it's been a very positive experience. The primary purpose
of this camera is for UV, and UV it can do; but the RD-1s is a lot more capable
than that :) Here's a week highlights ...

Vivek, it is a give and take relationship :) BTW, have you place an order for the R-D1s yet? :) I know you want one :)
Frederick, Vivek is right about his discovery, any might I add that it is also a very inexpensive lens ($10) as compared to other UV-passable lenses, especially the UV-Planar that Vivek just shown us.

Got my R-D1s a couple of days ago... my test subject is a little different :) Incidentally, made with an adapted JML 50/3.5 as well :)

Jonathan, hot mirror cut-down/block infrared spectrum. B+W 486 blocks off UV as well, which is why the 486 is also known as a "IR-UV cut" filter.
M7 MP metering cell specs?
in Leica and Rangefinders
Posted
Does anyone know the specification (apart from metering range) of the metering
cell used in a M7 or MP? Silicon photodiode is a little too general.
