Thanks Moderator for moving the thread to proper place.
Thanks Jim for fixing that link, I was between classes and didn't have time to fix it, That and I couldn't find my page with all my html codes. I hope the news will keep updating the lawsuit. It will be interesting to see the end result.
Bob, if the picture in your profile is what you look like then I think you would be lucky to win a $2.00 suit. Thanks for the new link too. It seems to me the real loser in this case will be the photographer provided she didn't get a release. In my wildest dreams I can't imagine someone submitting a photo with out a release. You never know.

Don't know where to put this, if it is in wrong place please delete or move
article http://dailynews.att.net/cgi-bin/news?

The meat and potatos of the story is that an amature photographer took a photo
of a women and her two dogs and Ghetty sold the images for a pet crematoriam
and now the women is suing. It seems as though that you shouldn't sell images
to Ghetty if you don't have a release.
I should be interesting to see how this plays out.

It's kind of hard to work on such a small image but If you select all of the blown highlights and copy to another layer then control click on that layer you can paint on just the area that you want. After you have it nice and covered add noise, I did it at 20% then copied that layer into another layer and added motion blur of blur of 90 on the top layer at 90 degrees and 0 degrees on the second layer. I changed the top layer to 50% opacity and then merged down.
The next step is to experiment with brushes, I used the dry media brushes and did a layer mask with a 50% opacity to erase some of the paint to try to create some texture. I think I ended up using 3 different types of brushes. Then did another motion blur at 90 degrees at 50 pixels then reduced opacity an layer to taste. If you take some time on this you can get the texture that you want.
I only spent about 15 minutes on this so it is not a very good example.

Just started having problems with ImageReady in PSCS. Is there a way
to purge the cache or buffers? I have spent a long day working with
it and now when I do a Roll Over I get a message that it is an
illegal function when switching between layers. I can save and close
the image and re-open it and as long as I do the Roll Over first it
will complete the task with no problems. I am using WinXP and have
shut down the program and rebooted the computer. IR works great for
about 15 minutes and then starts acting up again. Any suggestions
before reinstalling the program.
Thanks

If you or anyone manages to set something up like that let me know and I'll send a print or 2 your way.

I like the smudge tool in PS, I create a new layer and use Dry Brush Media under brushes and play with the brushes and opacity and flow to get something I like. I use a new layer so if I don't like the affect I can delete it and start over. I am attaching a quick example of the smudge tool.<div></div>

Hi Ben, you have a lot of detail to work with here and all you need it one raw file to bring it out.
With the image you posted I made a duplicate layer and with a blending mode of screen to bring out all the detail, then I quickley grabbed the sky and put it on its own layer and did a brightness/contrast adjustment. I created another layer and with the alt key I merged visible under layer to bring out all the shadow detail and then created a layer mask with a soft brush and erased the area I didn't want so light to get the final image. The sky was picked rather quickley and you can see a lot of parts that I shouldn't have grabbed. I only spent about 10 minutes on this but this is what I made with the one image.
Please let me know what you think. If this is what you are after I can send you details.

Thanks SP, I had not thought of that. It's a little messy but at least I could find the photo again.
It took me about 2 hours of searching through old posts but I finaly found Brians comment.
.....As for "no direct ratings", I'm thinking of doing that. I'm considering having a "favorites" system where people will be able to pick a photo as a "favorite" on the photo page but not rate it on the 1-7 scale. The favorites lists could be used for a display of each person's collection of favorites and also for some kind of TRP ranking based on how many people had made a photo a favorite.....
I wouldn't suggest making it part of the TRP as that is just another way people can scam the system. I just want something to make it easier to find photos that are listed as critique only.
The last thing I want to hear is someone complaining about "Mate Favorites"

Will it ever be possible to mark a Critique Only as one of your
favorits. Other then marking the photographer as someone your
interested in there isn't a way to find the photograph again. There
are some wonderful images that get lost in the system. Something
that would show up in the "Photos rated highest by this member"
would be a bonus.
Thanks

I am probably going to get flamed for saying this but I like the Keywords. They are roll over adds that don't intefere with reading the thread that I am on and if I want to visit the site I can go back to the add and go right to the subject I want to see.

Len, I don't know if you know this or not but unless your a patron it is harder to find photos that are listed as Critique Only. Unless you actively search for them they dissapear quickly. The only way that I find them is to browse the rate recent and search by no rates. Patrons have the Critique Only Gallery where a photo will stay on the front page of the gallery for a couple of days. I think others do this too, it is a great way to see some interesting photos.

Just another posibility is that you might have to change the ".bin" to ".BIN". I believe that the extension has to be in all caps.

Theres no moon like a well heald moon I always say. LOL I should have looked closer to see it was a moon! Ok, Moon is back in now.
As far as the steps I took.
1. Copy background. You don't need to do this it is just something I do in case I really mess up and want to start over.
2. Selected sky with Rectangular Marquee, You could also use magic wand if you have a lot of trees. Then I did Control J to past selection as new layer Mode is Normal.
3. Went to sky layer and Control Click on new layer to reactivate selection.
4. Under Select went to Feather and feathered by 2 pixels to smooth the transition.
5. On tool bar choose Gradient and then under gradient I chose Linear Gradient then clicked in box that shows gradient, choose Foreground to Transparent.
6. Then I chose colors from the sky and went from darkest blue to lights blue and put on bottom of gradient slider, I moved the sliders apart to reduce the banding and I only chose 3 levels. Clicked OK then.
7. On selection I pulled from top to bottom to get nice hue change.
8. Applied Layer Mask to bring moon back. Sorry, I thought that was a speck of dust or something. :-)
I used 3 layers, Background, Background copy and Sky layer. I didn't use a Gradient Layer on this one because I wanted to see where I was putting the blue so I just did it on the sky layer. The Gradient tool is behind the paint bucket.
I have a screen shot of the gradient slider in case anyone is wondering what I was talking about. I think it took me a month to figure out how to use it. I kept changing the color of the top instead of the bottom.
This was a fun excersize. I always learn things I didn't know I knew. Thanks

Here is my try. I selected the sky and put on seperate layer and used Gradient Foreground to Transparent then modified the color of the gradient from the strongest blue to the lightest blue and pulled from top to bottom in the selected area untill I was satisfied. Sky was easy to select because of the straight horizon, I just the rectangular marquee. Then I used healing brush on white dot that didn't clean up.<div></div>
