  1. In manual mode meter SHOULD be active to give us a feedback (there is no reason why should metering mode be disabled).

There were a lot of discussions about this issue, and users are divided about this thing, but IMHO, it was a mistake (I'm not sure if this was intended to work this way or it's a fault).

Fortunately this is fixed on 5D and i believe, KM will do the same in future cameras.

One 7D user has reported that after his 7D was repaired (for other problems) metering was active. On his 7D entire motherboard was changed, so it may be a hardware fault, but I'm not sure.

  2. I don't know if this is same issue, but i had big problems with "purple grid" on my first 7D body.

Starting with ISO 800 and up this was evident in darker part of the image. You can see an example of this issue at

Picture is taken with lens cap on do make the grid more evident.

Along with this overall ISO performance was pretty bad.

I received a replacement body (the first one had all sort of problems: back-focus, tilted sensor, noise issue etc.) which is perfect, and i can't reproduce this issue any more.

    Hope this helps a bit.

  3. No, color space, saturation, contrast, sharpness .... all those settings aren't important when shooting raw.

All raw files are basically grey images and to get anything acceptable they need to be converted to color. Even for B&W mode on some cameras, the data needs to be converted to color image and then converted to B&W.

    Happy shooting

  4. In contrary to Michael's opinion (which I highly respect) I believe we may see new flash guns next year (along with 7D replacement or 9D).

We may even see some new (or improved) metering modes and definitely a reworked preflash system.

But, this is just my personal expectation and I may easily be wrong.

    Happy shooting

  5. Camera is always using the whole sensor area. Resolution and size is then manipulated just as you would do it in Photoshop.

Resizing images does indeed reduce noise, but is the same effect as with details. Remember, noise consist off small unwanted color or luma blotches; while resizing (interpolating) images you "loose" the noise because the data is averaged from adjacent pixels.

  6. I know isn't a good manner to point you at other forums but there's a lot of talk about this lens in dpreview forum.

I own this lens and in short I can say that is surprisingly good lens. I was a little sceptic about it (with the price and large aperture in mind) but I really like it. I would prefer a little wider coverage (1.5 crop factor on 7D makes it a bit too long), and the build quality is good but not as older Minolta or G lenses, but the optical performance is really, really good.

Flare is very well controlled as are distortions (for a zoom lens). Contrast is to my likings and AF performance is great. At 2.8 is a bit soft, but images are still of good quality.

IMHO this lens is worth even double the price and it has very little competition at the moment (the old G lens with it's AF performance isn't really a worth investment IMHO). I haven't seen a new lens at that price with such a good overall performances.

If you need any info just ask. I can upload some raw files if needed too.

    Happy shooting

  7. Well, put it this way.

Go to Nikon and Canon forum and ask them how much they are willing to pay to have EVERY lens with stabilisation.

Just ask them, how much they are prepared to pay for 50/1.4 lens with IS or VR for example.

People often compare AS with IS or VR lenses. But, AS is far more than that. With 7D you have a wide range of stabilized lenses that you can't find on any other camp no matter of the cost !!!. That's a huge and often underrated advantage.

This is just about AS. But, if we want to be honest 7D is far more than AS. Especially compared to D70. But if you haven't find those advantages then you may not need them.

Good luck whit whatever you choose.

  8. IMHO, you will be better with asking for help on this (or other KM forums) than reading Magic Lantern for 7D. I own this book and this is the worst book i have chance to read in that genre. The book is lacking any advanced info and some contents is even wrong !!! One may wonder if the author has even worked with the camera more than few minutes.

    I really can't recommend it.

  9. Well,

IMHO 5D is more likely what will we see as the next km step. The new announced KM lenses are perfect mach for a 5D.

Once we hear something about new HQ lenses (with SSM and G mark) we can be sure that 9D is on its way.

  10. 1. if I find something annoying with the bracketing then is the missing option to select more than 0.5EV correction. That?s pretty stupid limitation.

    2. raw enlargements. This one is maybe my main complain.

    3. I still miss little info LCD. I know, it?s a personal thing, but I would love to have one.

    4. WB dial is maybe a good thing for jpg shooters but I don?t need that since I always shoot raw. I still prefer a dedicated custom WB button on A2. On 7D it takes too much steps to set a custom WB (select custom mode, press the button, turn the dial, press the button, press the shutter). I would like if in custom wb mode central controller button takes the wb target shoot immediately.

Despite all this complains I still found 7D the best DSLR on the market. I?m addicted to Minolta ergonomics.

  11. Are you shure about circular blades. One user has imformed me that the oldest version is without circular blade. Alo on KM site ( http://kmpi.konicaminolta.us/eprise/main/kmpi/Content/cam/cam_Attachments/Maxxum_Lenses#rs_fixed ) for the RS version under fixes is writen "Rubber focusing grip. ABS plastic focusing barrel. Circular aperture. 40% faster focusing. Focus hold button." I'm guessing that the user that have informed me has right?
