I was enjoying your portfolio, then I saw this and I stopped dead in my tracks, stunned! I can't even begin to describe how awesome this shot is. And the square format just....works!

    Dear Larry,

Yes, I really should have had my tripod, but I was attending a destination wedding as a guest, so I travelled super light, gear-wise :D

Thanks very much for your tweak!

I 'saw' this shot in my mind's eye.

I was a guest at a friend's wedding, held at a hotel with reallyfabulous Afro-Arabic architectural elements. I simply had to set thedress up for a shot.

    What do you think?

I liked the implied rising of this building, behind the mists of thefountains at the Mall. I deliberately underexposed it during capture,to throw the foreground into shadow and let the Burj rise.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the image...

Thanks Alf and Benjamin. It has been a while since I entered a photo for critique. I'm glad I did, and I'll do so more often now.

I see what you mean about the "in-limbo" rocky outcrop... I think I will crop it out in the final print.

As for shutter speed, I was approaching the outer limits of what I could safely handhold. Those waves had some power in them; it was hard to keep steady when they broke. They were knee-high or deeper. Unfortunately, I didn't carry a tripod.

I captured this soon after sunrise, somewhere on the Kenyancoastline. I shot it handheld. B&W conversion in post.

I would love your thoughts on the image (both as-is, and how Icould have improved it)

  1. Beautiful light. It picks up the lines of the car very well. My only nit pick is I would have positioned myself a bit more forward. I would rather see a bit more of the front than the rear.

I would also really have liked to see this from a fron 3/4 angle as well. Do you have some? :)

Excellent photo, my friend. Excellent choice of DOF to separate her from the background. Also the use of the trees a leading lines to her great expression.

This is an absolutely stunning photograph. Awesome composition, gorgeous lighting. Superlative in every way. And pretty eyes to boot :)
