    I've had the same problem with my new canon 7d. It locks up completely for no reason. It doesn't seem to matter what lenses I am using or how I'm using the camera. The off switch doesn't even work when this happens. All functions simply freeze.<br>

    I've sent the camera to canon twice, and they still haven't fixed the problem. I'm pretty frustrated, but will be sending the camera back to them yet again. They say they've never heard of this problem before.<br>

  2. Yep, I am having this same problem with my new Xti. My best guess at this point is that it has something to do with the lens/camera contacts. I would take a picture, it would be totally overexposed, and then I'd get the error message. I think I fixed it (at least temporarily) by removing and then reattaching the lens to the camera. I was using a canon 400L F5.6 prime lens when this happened, so this issue isn't just restricted to 3rd party lenses.
