Many thanks for steering me in the right direction. Brian's link took me through to a web page www.atncentral.com/download.html#Frames which is just what I wanted. I have also discovered that this is the web site that Jason was talking about. Can recommend this site. Thanks again Robyn

Thanks Brian, but I am not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean the top right of the layer style page for stroke. I couldn't find 'search' 'film border'. Can you be a little more specific.
Many thank for your help.

Hi,
I love the border around photos that can be achieved with printing
film photos ie the border that is achieved when part of neg/pos is
exposed around the photo. Does anyone know how to do this with
photoshop. I know how to put a stroke around my photos using layer
style, but I was wanting to make this more like a film border.
(I am using photoshop 7). I this makes sense. Thanks

Thanks for all of your responses. Reading your link KL, made me realise that I had forgotten to tick the colourise box in Hue/saturation, silly mistake. I did not realise though that there was so many other methods of attaining sepia - so I'll give them a go, and see which works the best. Thanks Robyn

This is basic sort of stuff, but for some reason, I can't get a good
look, and was hoping someone could help. I have Photoshop 7, and
was trying to give some very old prints that I have scanned and
repaired, a nice sepia look. Can anyone tell me how to get sepia
with Photoshop. Many thanks for your help.

Hi, I am using Photoshop 7, and the magnetic seletion tool to cut
out a group of people out of a photo, and give them a new back
ground. I am wondering if anyone could let me know how I can blend
the selection onto the new background, so that it looks more
believable. Many thanks for your help

Tom, you say that some printers do not handle colour profiles very well, so turning off the colour management and sending a converted file may give you the cleaned results. How do I turn off the printers colour management? Thanks

Thanks for your responses here. I think I've got it. I have just bought a digicam, and the cameras profile has been set at sRGB. I have just changed this to Adobe RGB (98), but you are saying that I still need to assign a profile, Adobe RGB (98)in photoshop regardless, for the reasons given. I also understand the reasons all of you are giving to convert, BUT I am currently reading a book called Adobe Photoshop Studio techniques, by Ben Willmore, and he states that if you plan to manipulate an image, than you need to convert to working RGB. My question is why. Why can you not just assign Adobe RGB (98) and work (manipulate) the file as is. What happens if I was to manipulate a file that I had assigned Adobe RGB, as opposed to converting to working RGB? Hope this makes sense.

Hi there, can anyone explain to me in simple terms (if that is
possible), when you would assign a profile in Photoshop, as opposed
to converting to a profile. Many thanks

Thanks, you have made some great points, and I have taken them on board.

I probably need to rephrase my question to ask 'what are the issues'. I know that you can get by with older technology, but you cannot necessarily grow with this technology. I am simply trying to go into this with open eyes, and understand the issues. Yes I can get to work in my old car, but what happens if circumstances change, and my work is now 100kms away - the old car just wont do the distance, so it will become obsolete. Changing technology wont stop me from buying a camera (or I'd never end up with a digital camera), I am just wanting to know what may lie ahead. Many thanks

Hi there. I am now in the market for a digital camera, and it seems
that the rapid advances (particularly in sensor technology) are
slowing down and digital cameras are stabilizing and it has become
safe to buy one without fear of rapid obsolescence. I would
appreciate if someone can give me their views on the issues of
changing technology with regard to storage of images?

Kodak has KAC-3100 and KAC5000. Does anyone know anything about these? Many thanks

Hi there. I am currently a student of photography, and on a very
steep learning curve studying digital photography at the moment. I
am currently learning about image sensors, and have found much info
about CCDs and CMOS, but was wondering if anyone knew of a third
sensor using completely different technology? If anyone could steer
me in the right direction with this one, I would be very grateful.
Thanks

Thanks, I was really just trying to understand. I am currently a student of photography, studying digital at the moment, and my teacher is talking in a level of terminology above me. So when I hear a term that I have not heard before, I try to become familiar with it. I find that asking other photographers on these types of forums is a good way of getting a simple and relevent (to digital photography that is)explanation. I tried doing a general search for magnetic media on the web, but ended up getting very confused - so this gives me a place to start. It sounds like I am taking short cuts, by I have 3 young children under school age, whilst trying to undertake a degree, so I don't have a lot of time. So I very much appeciate the help of other photographers to steer me in the right direction.

I don't know whether I have this question in the right category, but
can anyone explain to me what Magnetic Media is, and how it is used
in digital photography

I am currently in the market for a 20D, and want to buy a memory card
at the same time. Can anybody with experience in using the 20D let me
know of a good memory card for this camera - brand, speed etc.
I am currently a student of photography, but hope to go professional
one day. Was thinking 1 to 2 gb.

I am currently a photography student looking to change from film to
digital. At the moment, I am comparing the D10 with D20, and tossing
up whether to scrape together the cash to purchase the D20. One
feature that interests me with the D20, is the B&W mode. Can anybody
tell me what the differences are with using the B&W mode on the D20
versus converting photos to B&W in photoshop. What are the advantages
of this mode?
