  1. Hi folks,

I am trying to print photos from a cd that was made from my scanned 6x7 negatives. When I had the

4x5 proofs made I asked for a basic scan to cd.

Here is my problem, I want to print out on 4x6 paper when I click print and then select fit paper to

    media

the print still comes out as a 4x5 print on the 4x6 paper just with a larger white border on one end. It

does the same even if I select 4x6 print in the printer options. I have tried resizing the photo first in

photoshop but I am not sure how. I dont understand why it doesnt just automatically crop it to fit on

the 4x6 paper? I am using photoshop cs.

    thanks.

    walter.

  2. hi folks,

i have a d200 and i have noticed that when i download a photo and click file info, all the information is

there other than the shutter speed. it is recorded by the camera because i can see it on the camera

screen. how come i dont see the shutter speed in the file info?

  3. i recently purchased capture one software. i then had two free downloads for their new

versions. after downloading their latest one which contained some new b&w profiles

everything worked fine for about a week. i ACCIDENTALLY deleted the new version. no

problem i think, just go back to phase one site where i am registered and download the

latest version again. problem is even though in the file info it says it is version 4 it is

missing the new additions. i have gone through several contacts with phase one where

they said try a complete uninstall of the old version; remove all raw files from computer

turn of pop up blocks, turn of firewall protection. nothing works. they even said to go to

an internet cafe download the .dmg file there and then install on your mac. still does not

work, i get the same message saying there are some errors with the download. when i do a

check on the file it says the .dmg file is fine, but it still does not work, it works as if it is

version 3 even though it says it is version 4.

  4. i recently purchased capture 1 software to use with my d200. i have an emac with 800

mhz power processor g4. memory 768 mb sdram. after downloading and editing 24 raw

files and clicking process in capture 1 it takes about 6 hrs to process the images. the sales

man said it would be really slow and i may need to spend an additional $1500-$2000 on

    another computer.

is there anything else i can do to speed things up?

  5. personally i have found outdoor images from my d200 to be fine. HOWEVER the interior

shots with low light levels ARE HORRIFIC they look fine on my camera screen but on my

monitor are very underexposed. i do a lot of low light interiors and have been

overexposing according to camera meter by 1.5-2 stops and still having to brighten the

    nef image in capture 1.

  6. as i have mentioned in a few other ?'s i am new to digital. i have a d200 and have found

that every photo seems to benefit from some photoshop sharpening. if i were to shoot

1000 photos at a wedding does this mean that i would need to go through every single

one and add sharpening before going to print. does the in camera sharpening do the same

    thing?

  7. when i open a photo in photoshop a box opens that says document has an embedded

colour profile that does not match the current rgb working space. i am given 3 options. 1-

use the embedded profile [instead of the working space] 2- convert documents colours to

the working space or 3- discard the embedded profile [dont colour manage]. what

    determines what you should choose.

next question: what is the diffrence between setting my d200 to srgb or rgb?

  8. thanks guys, it seems to me that though i am saving money on film and processing there

is a lot more computer related work to do. i used to take my mf film to the lab get the

proofs, give them to the client. if i know shoot nefs[ which seems to be the way to go] i

know have to go through 500+ photos convert them to jpgs or tiffs. i have not actually

shot a wedding yet with the camera but isnt this an awfull lot of work?

  9. i am very new to digital ,own a d200. i still do not understand why one would choose raw

vs. jpeg fine, from what i have seen the quality of the final prints seems to be the same. i

have been told that there is more work involved in a raw file. also for ex. with a wedding

after shooting in raw is the client given a cd of raw files? if they are changed to a jpeg for

the customer why not just shoot jpeg in the first place?

  10. i dont know if this question should go somewhere else but is there a big quality diffrence

between shooting in raw compared to jpeg. fine setting? also if you shoot in raw and then

make a cd do they not also have to be able to open the raw file. [the d200 is my first

    digital camera}
