i download from my camera to computer wich is a mac osx 3.9 800mhz g4 768mb sdram. is there
anyway to speed up the downloading process. would a card reader be of any use. also i download with
image capture is there anything better to use for downloading and sorting?

Hi folks,
I have a mac osx that has image capture.
When I download photos from my camera, image capture opens up and I create a folder for the images.
After downloading though it makes A PDF of all the photos, which takes A really long time.
Do I need this PDF for anything.

Hi folks,
I am trying to print photos from a cd that was made from my scanned 6x7 negatives. When I had the
4x5 proofs made I asked for a basic scan to cd.
Here is my problem, I want to print out on 4x6 paper when I click print and then select fit paper to
media
the print still comes out as a 4x5 print on the 4x6 paper just with a larger white border on one end. It
does the same even if I select 4x6 print in the printer options. I have tried resizing the photo first in
photoshop but I am not sure how. I dont understand why it doesnt just automatically crop it to fit on
the 4x6 paper? I am using photoshop cs.
thanks.
walter.

i recently purchased capture one software. i then had two free downloads for their new
versions. after downloading their latest one which contained some new b&w profiles
everything worked fine for about a week. i ACCIDENTALLY deleted the new version. no
problem i think, just go back to phase one site where i am registered and download the
latest version again. problem is even though in the file info it says it is version 4 it is
missing the new additions. i have gone through several contacts with phase one where
they said try a complete uninstall of the old version; remove all raw files from computer
turn of pop up blocks, turn of firewall protection. nothing works. they even said to go to
an internet cafe download the .dmg file there and then install on your mac. still does not
work, i get the same message saying there are some errors with the download. when i do a
check on the file it says the .dmg file is fine, but it still does not work, it works as if it is
version 3 even though it says it is version 4.

i recently purchased capture 1 software to use with my d200. i have an emac with 800
mhz power processor g4. memory 768 mb sdram. after downloading and editing 24 raw
files and clicking process in capture 1 it takes about 6 hrs to process the images. the sales
man said it would be really slow and i may need to spend an additional $1500-$2000 on
another computer.
is there anything else i can do to speed things up?

other than taking a day course in capture for dslrs which i do plan on taking, are there any
books someone could recommend on using capture one?
-
personally i have found outdoor images from my d200 to be fine. HOWEVER the interior
shots with low light levels ARE HORRIFIC they look fine on my camera screen but on my
monitor are very underexposed. i do a lot of low light interiors and have been
overexposing according to camera meter by 1.5-2 stops and still having to brighten the
nef image in capture 1.

i just wanted to add, should i not be able to make a straight print from a $3000.00 camera
kit and not have to do something to evry photo in photoshop first?
-
as i have mentioned in a few other ?'s i am new to digital. i have a d200 and have found
that every photo seems to benefit from some photoshop sharpening. if i were to shoot
1000 photos at a wedding does this mean that i would need to go through every single
one and add sharpening before going to print. does the in camera sharpening do the same
thing?

does anyone know what the canadian copyright laws are for photographers? [ particularly
ONTARIO]

when i open a photo in photoshop a box opens that says document has an embedded
colour profile that does not match the current rgb working space. i am given 3 options. 1-
use the embedded profile [instead of the working space] 2- convert documents colours to
the working space or 3- discard the embedded profile [dont colour manage]. what
determines what you should choose.
next question: what is the diffrence between setting my d200 to srgb or rgb?
-
thanks everyone but i am still wondering, what does the client get. a cd of raw files or tiffs
or jpegs?
-
for those using digital are you shooting jpeg fine or raw and why
-
thanks guys, it seems to me that though i am saving money on film and processing there
is a lot more computer related work to do. i used to take my mf film to the lab get the
proofs, give them to the client. if i know shoot nefs[ which seems to be the way to go] i
know have to go through 500+ photos convert them to jpgs or tiffs. i have not actually
shot a wedding yet with the camera but isnt this an awfull lot of work?
-
i am assuming you would convert the raw to a jpeg or tiff for the client?
-
i am very new to digital ,own a d200. i still do not understand why one would choose raw
vs. jpeg fine, from what i have seen the quality of the final prints seems to be the same. i
have been told that there is more work involved in a raw file. also for ex. with a wedding
after shooting in raw is the client given a cd of raw files? if they are changed to a jpeg for
the customer why not just shoot jpeg in the first place?
-
i recently purchased a d200 camera, i shot 60 nef files downloaded them and know my
mac with osx 800mhz g4/768mb sdram is running horribly slow. is this because of the 60
nefs or something else? i even quite some applications like photoshop cs and it is still
very,very slow.
-
jason how do you handle that many high res files on your computer? and do you give your
clients a cd with raw files.
-
thanks guys, this is definetly a problem occuring with low light levels [interiors] all the
outside shots are fine. i am still dissapointed though; the diffrence is quite drastic.
-
i am brand new to digital. just bought d200. the photos look great on the d200 screen,
however when i download them to my mac all of the photos are too dark, i fix them in
photoshop but why do they not look the same as on the camera in the first place?
-
i dont know if this question should go somewhere else but is there a big quality diffrence
between shooting in raw compared to jpeg. fine setting? also if you shoot in raw and then
make a cd do they not also have to be able to open the raw file. [the d200 is my first
digital camera}
