  1. <p>Good Evening Everyone, I have a 6 months old 5D Mark 2. Sometimes my image files will have lines going across the entire image. It happened once or twice when I first got the camera, but now it is getting unacceptable. Before I send it the camera, I wanted to know if this is an easy fix.<br>

I use different CF cards. I undated the firmware. I try different file sizes, BTW, I usually only shoot JPG at the highest resolution. Take a look at my file ant let me know if you know what's happening.<br>

One more interesting detail, the default Canon file name is always "IMG_XXXX", X being a number, the images with lines in them are named "_MG_XXXX". The I is missing and is replace by an underscore. The file size also doubles from about 4.5 MB for a file with no lines to over 9 MB for the files with lines.<br>

I am attaching an image for your review. I think I need to bring it back to Canon, but I will be without a camera for who knows how long.<br>

    Thanks, Alex</p><div>00W0Ze-229549784.thumb.jpg.61e862d6e39753914902344bb6659d32.jpg</div>

  2. I think it is a good effort. It is too blurry for me. The hot spot is a bit too hot. The angle also make the body look a bit flat. Check the shoot angle and lose the hot spots, keep the dark shadows and you should have a great photo.

Hope you don't mind my honest opinion.

  3. Ross, it is really between the two of you. My feeling is, since you are not paying her and she is not paying you, then both of you have some rights to the photos.

I give my model every single photo. I do request that if they post any, that I should edit them first. What image you like, may not be the images the model likes. I once sold a photo for an ad that, I thought, was the uglist photo I took of the model, but the model and the art director disagree.

I let my models use the photo for her promotional purposes and I have the same right. Any commercial use must be approved by the both of us.

Again, it is up to you and your model as to how many images you give them. I would not put a water mark on the images that you give the model.

  4. My god.... $15,000. I have been using a $300 power pack and three Novatron lights that I got used on Ebay. Spend another $120 on a soft box and a few dollar on used stuff. Good enough for me. If I have $15,000 I'll spend at most $2,500 on lighting and take a trip to Europe and China and take some nautral light photo.

I am sorry, I think $15,000 to buy lighting equipment just to start out is way overkill. Just my very humble opinion.

    Cheers, Alex

  5. It really depends on what your agreement with the model is. Some photographer will only give a few images, others (like myself) will give the model a copy of everything we shoot. What images I like and the images that my model like are usually not the same one. It is only fair on a TFCD that the model get to look at all of them. But, it is really up to the both of you.
  6. I use only two lights, one with a softbox and one with either an umbrella or a snoot. Move the lights are and experiment. Otherwise there are tons of lighting books at your local big box book store or one line. Try the liberary for books. I never find the books very useful as the type of light and the equipment and the experience of the photographer all contribute to a distinct look.

Have fun and just try different things, Alex

  7. One two occasions, Walgreens refuses to give me the printed photos that I had submitted for printing thruogh the internet. Their main reason is that I don't look like a professional photographer. I think this is discrimination at it's best, when the way you look determine the service you get.

My telling them that I am not a pro, and that I had taken the photos with my own studio lights and a cheap black back drop did not help. They ask to see the negative. The NEGATIVES, helloooooo, I submitted this via the internet. It's a digital file!

So, I no longer use Walgreens, their policy is a joke. They will print bad photo, but not good ones. The will only print the "professional ones" if you look like a professional.

I was pissed, not at the policy as much, but at holding back the images when I went to the store to pick them up. It was printed but they cannot release them to me. OK, why did not anyone call or email me to tell me that they cannot release the printed images without any prove. NOOOO, I had to drive to the store and then be confronted by a clerk telling me that I am not good enough to take these photos, and he is not going to release them to me.

What a way to do business. I get them printed a Longs, no question asked at all and much better quality then Walgreens.

  8. I think your first attempt is excellent. Good location and setting. Light is good. My advise is to going and shoot again at different time of the day and under different weather conditions. You will quickly find your favorite light and the condition to shoot it in.

    Cheers, Alex

  9. Hi everyone, I have been using a black background for a while, and I wanted to get opinions from other

portrait photographers what color backgrounds are the best for portraits in black and white work. I

would especialy like your thought on background color vs. skin color and hair color.

    Thank you in advance, Alex

  10. Withine two months the PC flash sync port fell off the camera, yes it fell off the camera. KM

fixed it. Now the PC flash sync port center pin broke. I do a lot of studio shooting, but I

did the same or more with my Olympus E20, and the 4 year old E20's PC port is still

    working perfectly.

This really tells me that KM is using inferior components and poor quality control process.

I am very disappointed. Had shot with Minolta for years, now I am thinking about Canon.
