1.
Thank you John--yes, I know they sound a little snobby and are very particular about how they want stuff. I thought so too. They will def. not be my main lab. Just for a couple of things...because I really really like their style. I really appreciate your help. I looked, and PSE 2.0 doesn't have it.
Thanks, Shaun--you have just saved me a lot of money!

  2.
I am pretty new in some aspects of sending things to online labs. When I was into photography before, I used a local lab...but of course they went out of business. that local lab apparently babied me b/c i never knew anything about resizing, dpi or ppi, and they always turned out beautiful.
I really like the products offered at whcc. i'm not using them as my main lab, but i would like to use them for some things like rep cards and the folded business cards and maybe gift tags. when sending my test prints, they said i needed to have a specific color space imbedded, and also that i needed to calibrate my monitor before they could print them for me. They gave me directions and gave me recommendations. here's what they said...
1. need to pick a color space in photoshop
2. need to buy calibration thing X-Rite i1 Display is recommended
I know I sound really clueless...I'm really not that "into" all of the digital stuff...I just of course like the ability to crop, retouch, adjust saturation, and adjust contrast really...I have no desire to buy photoshop at this time. well, i take that back...i would like the ability to design pages in an album, and i think photoshop would give me that ability, right? rather than sending my jpgs for someone else to design?
ok that was off topic.
do i need photoshop? does everyone have it? do i need that calibration device? i don't really want to spend all of that money if I don't actually need it. Are there other cheaper options that others might be using?
I do mainly outdoor portrait photography. i have a small studio but i've just gotten it out after 3 years and haven't "relearned" what i know I have forgotten. I taught elem. ed for 3 years, and am taking the year off to stay home with our new baby.

  3.
Hi everyone.
I am getting back into photography part time after taking 3 years off to teach full time. I am staying at home with my new daughter, and decided to get back into it.
Years ago, I get my domain name and web hosting package through yahoo. I had a mac. I was totally new to web design and none of the templates were compatible with mine for free, and so i had to learn html code and did it that way. I don't want to do that again!
Now I have PC. Mac is dead :( I want to start up a new site, but I was thinking I should get my domain through godaddy. Here is what I want in a website:
1- flash player on homepage
2-email by the domain name
3-set up password protected galleries
4-lowest price available, since I'm just doing it part time and money is tight.
5-be sure that the photos are unable to copy by viewer
What I would like to know is, do I need to have a domain regristrar, then web host, and then someone else to set up the website for flash player to showcase the photos? Any suggestions on what companies do have these things? I am sort of a novice at a LOT of things...i was looking at ifp3 but wasn't sure what everyone thought of it...
Any help would be greatly appreciated--this forum has helped me tremedously in the past.
Thank you all so much!

  4. I have been practicing with my Hensel Integra 1000W monolight

kit. It comes with 2-500W flash heads, a softbox, 2 umbrellas,

    and a honeycomb. I also have a rectangular 4 ft x 2ft reflector.

I have been practicing with using my softbox as my main light, to

the left of my camera, with the umbrella behind my camera and

to the right. My problem is that the fill light with the umbrella is

creating a harsh shadow behind the subject. Will simply turning

down the of that flashhead diminish the shadow? Please help.

Should I put the fill light in front of the camera, to the right of the

subject so as not to create any more shadows? I have been

asked to do some Homecoming dance pictures at a middle

school, and I want to minimize any shadows as it will be full-

length pictures. Also, there may be some small groups rather

than couples who want to be pictured together.

I should have ironed these things out before I agreed, but it's too

late now so any advice will be greatly appreciated. I do have

    several weeks.

Thanks to all who take the time to reply---

    Jacqueline
