Or contact Tony Rose at popflash.com .. I've bought several items from him in the last year for much less than the asking price in Australia

Go for Barossa Valley and Adelaide, the City of Churches (or city of pubs, as many of them are now..)
I'll be down in Melbourne from Canberra around New Years but you've probably moved on by then. Send a message if you make it to the nations capital. Not much to see here though..

John,
You're not slow, you're right :)
They obviously got it the wrong way around. .58x should have the smallest framelines and .85x the largest.

Thanks Paul!
I'll be keeping that price in mind, they seem to be a bit more expensive at KEH, but I'll keep an eye out for something here.

Hi guys,
I'm wanting to get a fast lens and it seems the 50mm pre-asph summilux is one
of the more reasonable options. Just wondering whether anybody could give me
an idea of colour rendition of this lens when shooting chromes?
Also, what should a lens in good condition be going for these days?
Cheers

MP has a light meter :)

I second the Domke F803. It's just perfect.

Excellent work Vladimer.
If you don't mind me asking, what film was this taken on? And did you do any post-processing digitally? Love the colours.
-
Good on you Terry!
-
Thanks for all your advice! Really appreciate it.
I'll try and expose the next roll at 200 and develop accordingly. Hopefully it will work out somewhat better!
Regards,
Gert

Thanks Paul
If the negatives are similar, would less agitation produce a better negative, or simply to develop for a shorter period of time? Or is there anything else you would recommend to correct it in the future?

Hi all,

Developed my first roll of B&W film last night and got them scanned at the local
photo place. Posting two of the photos here.

They appear to me to have very high contrast, black blacks and very white
highlights (particularly the first photo). I'm not sure if I've overdeveloped
the film or if there's anything else that could be done to reduce contrast.

Overexposed?

Or overdeveloped?

Or are they fine? I'm not entirely sure.

The shots were taken on HP5+ film and developed in DD-X for 9 mins at 20 degrees
Centigrade with agitation (4 inverts) every minute.

Thanks for any advice!

Are there any prices indicated anywhere?

Torben:
I will be stopping over in KL in January for a few days. Any stores carrying used leica gear that you would recommend?
And I must ask, where do I find fuji films at less than $1? :-) What are the prices like for regular b&w films?
Cheers

Thanks for all your replies. I'm most grateful for so many people throwing in their opinions about the domke's.

Thanks Peter!

Want to order the Domke 1" gripper strap for a Leica MP, but I'm unsure as to
whether I should get the basic one or the one with swivel and quick release.
Unfortunately there are no shops here who stock them so I'd really appreciate if
somebody would let me know what the difference is, and what the advantage of
having the one with the swivel is.
Thanks

How about Leica M8?

Check out the leica forum or link below for more details

Jim's idea is probably better.
I forgot about the 1.5x crop factor on digital SLR's, and the 105mm may be a little long for your use.
-
My suggestion would be to get the wide-angle lens. You'll probably enjoy it more being a zoom lens, and it will allow you to take environmental portraits as well where the surroundings are included.
I personally thought the tamron 90mm macro was too sharp for portraits, showing every cosmetic flaw brilliantly, but with digital I guess you could always fix that up in photoshop. It's a good macro lens though.
If you want a nice portrait lens only, I'd suggest getting a used 105mm Ai-S f2.5 Nikkor ($286 from www.keh.com), which is a fantastic portrait lens. I'm not sure if the D50 can meter with Ai-S lenses, but I guess you could always use the LCD to get an idea of metering.

Hi Daniel,
No photo shops are open on Sundays in Oslo as far as I know. Norway is a bugger like that, nothing open on Sundays.
-
And don't forget to take lots and lots of photos!
Enjoy your camera!

Hi Dan,
I just purchased a Nikon 300mm f4 IF-ED from KEH.com in "Excellent condition" for less than $500. They've got several others in Excellent condition available for around that price. I've seen them go on evilbay for $600-700, and there you never know what you'll end up with.

Zach:
In that case I would follow Jeff's advice. Insure your camera gear and have fun with it while you're there! Your host family should be able to look after you and give you plenty of advice. You should be fluent in swahili by the time you come back :)
Have fun!
