  1. Resolved:

Yesterday, I received both my replacement "Flash Arm" from Canada and an emailed response from Harry. His repair estimate was reasonable (if his assessment was correct) to fix the one problem. The trouble was his time approximation, including shipping time to and from; he said it usually takes an average of 9 weeks. I can?t wait that long and am not too thrilled with paying extra $ to expedite (I don?t even know if this was an option). I figured, I best go ahead and start looking into any repair facilities that fixes Rolleiflex?s and get estimates and ETA?s. However, after I started taking the face of the camera off to install the Flash Swing Arm, I decided to take one more shot at attempting to determine what was wrong. My original guess was that the quandary resided somewhere in the ?winder? side of the camera and I assumed I either put a part in wrong or maybe knocked off a tension wire or spring accidentally. I used this old $15 model ?F? clunker that is largely stripped as a guide. Everything seemed to be in place and was functioning normally in my tests, but damn it, every time I put the test roll of film in and advanced it to ?1? it was off by a full frame! At about 2AM I was going to just call it quits and put it back together when I noticed that the main gear/spindle that sits behind the ?catching spool? was regulated by a strong tension wire on the ?focus? side of the camera. After investigating, I also discovered a small screw that has an irregularly shaped cap that clearly spins to adjust the tension wire. After playing with it I was able to determine what the result would be if I turned it either way. Now what was plainly being revealed to me was that this was the problem. I must have moved the tension wire when I had the ?focusing panel? off previously. If it isn?t adjusted correctly, the amount of winded film on the ?catching spool? will need a greater amount of actual spooled film/paper to catch that ?notched? part of the gear/spindle that turns the primary ?number dial? on the ?winder side? of the camera. Thus, it was requiring more paper from the film to advance to 1 and I was ending up on 2 instead.

    Woo hoo!

Now all I have to do is hope that nothing else goes wrong again as every time I open up this camera to fix one thing, something else ends up going wrong later???

  2. I have a Rolleiflex E3 TLR. Something is wrong within the cameras film

advance function; everything seems fine after loading the film and

advancing it, the camera ?senses? the film and it rolls to frame one,

however, it is over-advancing the film by about one full frame (it

ends up starting on the ?two section? on the roll itself). Not good,

wasting film! I am sure I did this when I had to go inside the

"Winder" panel to retrieve a lost washer that came off of the "flash

arm" when it fell off. The washer got stuck and I had to get it out.

What I did wrong is a mystery.

    Any advice would be appreciated.
