  1. I really miss manual focusing from my ae-1. I now have a 20d and am considering the switch to the d200 since I dont have any real investment in lenses.

I think that its awesome to use the old, well built, and cheaper glass without having to manually stop down the lens!

Can the d200 accept focusing screens without losing any function

  2. I have had it several months and is a great lens...but 3 or 4 times

now I have tried to take a picture and it wouldn't I look on the lcd

on the top and it shows 00 for the aperture so I have to turn it off

and remount the lens and then it works.

    What gives?

If this is a sign of what will only get worse shoudl I just go ahead

    and pickup a 17-40 and a 70-200 4 instead of the sig 70-200 2.8 i

    was planning on getting.

Im just afraid it wont work with the cameras in future but sure do

    love nice brokeh.

  3. Hey thank you for that advice I will give it a try. I am about to make my first attempts at raw also.

My biggest problem is I will take the large jpeg picture and then I want to adjust levels and add some color with channel mixer and then maybe some contrast and saturation....after all that the noise level goes quite a bit up. So I guess I should do all that and then run the noise reduction programs.

Also I notice alot that when I have a image that had too much range in it and I try to fix it I get gaps in the levels chart which I found out I can fix by using adobe rgb instead and converting back to srgb in the end, just dont know how to do that yet. I have ALOT to learn.

  4. I am a little confused about the AF assist beam. Does it just emit an infra red type beam in a cross pattern to help with focus or is it a visible beam like the annoying pulse flashes that are on the 20d when it can't find a focus point?

Do they allow focus in virtually no light?

  5. I am in the market now for a flash and am not sure which to get. I have the 20d so I can already do the exposure compensation on camera.

I guess the big factor is price..if the 420 sold for 150 I may just pick it up ... or if the 430 would start at 250 I would get it.

  6. I saw this post earlier today and I was just about to write how much I hate Canon because I had sent in the 20d rebate and 4 weeks later I see nothing on status so I called and they said it must have been lost in the mail.

Stupid me had lost all the copies of what I made and I thought for sure I would never see it. Low and behold I come home and there it is sitting in the mailbox 6-8 weeks after I sent it off.

I am very happy now and will buy a 420ex with my new proceeds with a small cash injection.

    So now I am satisfied.

  7. I am with Jo on this one...this member is the reason I picked up one and couldnt be happier.

I have setup numerous test shot comparing it to my 50mm 1.8 mk ii and its not too far off in sharpness, although color cast is a tad different. Build quality is second only to the Canon 24-70 but for the price I wont argue and the focus is faster than the Tamron.

Overall I chose is for the build quality, wider end as I dont have a wider lens and even if I did the fewer changes the better, and the ones I had tested the Sigma was sharper than the Tamron.

Good luck though either are very great lenses!

  8. I would say go with the Sigma 2.8 which is said to be sharper than even the canon 2.8 by some and there are tests that show it.

People say it may not be compatible or it doesn't hold its value. Please you could buy almost 3 lenses for the cost of a 2.8 canon!

Sigmas resale is not to far off in proportion to the Canon either....Get the sigma, get the extra stop, and if it ends up being not compatible buy another you are still in cheaper than the Canon 2.8

For reference I own the Sigma 24-70 ex 2.8 and love it, although I would like to own the Canon's its just not feasible for the price.

  9. I recently purchased a Sigma 24-70 ex 2.8 a little over a week ago.

Today I noticed when I rotate the camera and change teh weight

distribution I hear some very slight creaking noise around the mount.

I dont know if its the lens on on the 20d. Regardless...is this

normal at all to have a faint creaking on the 20d or the ex lens.

  10. Nope what you see is when I got my first camera about a year ago which was the powershot s50 since then I have picked up the 20d and tripod and tried to learn alot...picked up a few nice shots.

Look I know most will hate it but their are horrible photos that get downloaded on istock everyday that a five year old could take....I guess I am just wondering is there anything in the middleground?
