    Anhinga Lunch

          1

I would like to hear what everyone thinks of this image. This was

taken before I really started to learn how to shoot. This was taken

spur of the moment, without a tripod and out of a whim. I was sitting

with a friend on a fishing pier at Everglades Holiday Park in Broward

County, FL when the anhinga flew into the water near the pier. I was

in the middle of trying to shoot aligators and birds, but was taking a

break. I grabbed the camera, quickly switched from my 300mm lens to

the standard 17-85mm that comes supplied with the 300D and started

shooting. I consider myself extremely lucky to have captured this and

several others. Thanks in advanced for critiques.

I must say that I love the shot. Of course, I am a bit biased as waterfall/river/creek shots are my favorite, but I love the angle that this is shot at. The colors are very vivid and there is nice contrast between the trees, the clouds and the river/creek. I would love to see more detail in this shot, which is not possible with the screen resolution. Do you have a higher resolution of this image available? I would love to see this at 100% size or even 75%. 7/7.

i really enjoy this photo. It gives me a sense of comfort, oddly enough it actually makes me want to grab a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise. Very good. Stunning colors, beautiful contrast. 6/6
  1. Thanks to Rob, I have created a nice border for this one. I would

appreciate any critiques on the border, font, style, colors, etc. I

am trying to learn how to properly use photoshop to create borders.

Thanks in advance. If you like this picture, please check out my

other Florida alligator picture, called "Eye of the Gator". More

Everglades pictures to come. (I only like 1 mile away from it).

I really appreciate all of the nice and positive comments. It really means a lot to me, because most of my other photos were poorly rated. It also means a lot, because it shows that someone who has never taken any photography classes can compete with professional photographers. Thank you all very much sincerely.

What then, should I do about my name? Shrink the Font? Change the font? I'm new at doing captions, but I really like the way they come out. It makes a picture look more professional (in my opinion). Should I completely remove the writing? Remove the border? Anyone else's thoughts? Thanks, -Jesse.
  2. But, you need to put the caption on a border. It is actually quite simple to do in photoshop. Just increase the canvas size and fill it in any color you want (increase, say 50 pixels both ways) and then add the text there. GO BUCKEYES!

I really like this shot, because of her eyes. For some reason they really speak to me. She looks nervous in this shot, like something bad is about to happen or just did. I'm not sure why I said this, but you can just see something in her face/eyes. I like it.

Hello, I wanted to know what everyone thought of the photo itself,

but the title on the bottom. I have tried to come up with a good

title, but the only two i liked were "Florida Alligator" and "Eye of

the Gator". Please make suggestions if you can think of any.

    Thanks, -Jesse B. Bott

  3. I agree. It is a fine documentary example of the cruelty of fishing. I'm not going to start an arguement over vegetarians versus omnivores. I'm not a vegetarian, but I definitely see the gruesome side of eating other animals. Well done. 7/7, 7/7.
