Many people have little love for Vultures, but I rather like them.
This photo was taken in the Paracas Marine Reserve, Peru. The Pelican
being eaten was sick and had lingered for a few days. It eventually
died and four to five Vultures were waiting to ensure that its
nutrients were recycled.
Note, drumsticks eaten first.

This is what is known as a Bird Turd Moth(or Bird Dropping Moth).
They mimic bird droppings to avoid predation. Found on a purple
conehead flower, which made for a nice background.

Small fishing village in the Paracas marine reserve of coastal Peru.
Taken near sunset as the boats were coming in for the evening. Its
quite a strong ecological contrast...one of the driest deserts in the
world dropping into one of the worlds most productive marine upwellings.

The Old Man of Paracas
in Portrait
Posted
One of the kindest souls I know. Sr. Nicolas, the old man of Paracas,
Peru. He is a singer and a poet and a guitarist. He plays almost
everyday for the fishermen and passersby. He has lived a life in the
sun of coastal Peru and shows his age well. He is getting on in years
and his guitar doubles as a crutch. Despite a little trouble getting
around, he doesn't let much keep him from taking the 30 minute ride
from Pisco to Paracas to play guitar and sing and chat a bit.
Someone once told me they felt like his wrinkles were a sort of map of
his life.
