Well after all that I've just been offered a 1DS MKII from a friend for a great price. So, it looks like my 5D will end up being my 'other' camera.

thanks for the heads up on Hyperdrive, I hadn't heard of this before but it looks pretty good and a lot cheaper than a lot of other devices out there.

Can anyone recommend a good storage device? Ideally I would like one with a

viewer but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't have one. I normally

take my laptop on trips but as it weighs 3kg it's a chunk of my 12kg baggage

allowance!

I was leaning towards the 40D and after reading all the comments here it does look like the way to go. I have my own weather sealing kit for Africa - a pillowcase!

Ideally I'd like to wait for the Canon Gods to announce the new 5 but that's anyone's guess.

I already have a 5D but would like to buy a back-up camera. I'm looking at the

40D, another 5D or a 1D MKIII. I would like to know peoples thoughts as to what

would be a good back-up camera for safari shoots. I know there are cost issues

and I don't have an unlimited budget so I'd be grateful for any advice.

yes it would've been advisable to check the camera before shooting but hindsight is a great thing. Dust was worse than I thought and healing brush will take forever - already tried in PS and Lightroom. Will give the dust and scratches thing a go.
