    Hippo fight

          5

That's no yawn! He wanted to make sure that the smaller guy in the water knew who was the boss around that area of the river. He often charged the smaller hippo with that open mouth. I failed to get nice and sharp pictures of that action.

    Thanks again

Nice shot. Only crit is that I would have liked to see more of the right hand side in the shot so that yoy can see the turn in the road. At the moment the road leads the eye out of the fram and then later back in.

    Unless this was your intention?

Brilliant shot - subject is to die for and you made the most of it. Crisp, and DOF is spot on.

Looks like and oldish guy - wonder if the broken tooth got him on edge?

    Congrats

  1. Hi

I can only imagine how frustrating this must have been! To get a shot at a leopard is quite rare and you have to make do with what you get, so please accept my critique in this context.

The light is quite flat - would have been nicer to get the shot earlier in the day or later in the afternoon. I have stopped taking pics after 09h00 and before 16h00. Results are always dissapointing.

It appears that the picture is focused on the mound of dirt, rather than the cat. Fine facial hairs not crisp.

    Composition:

Exposure on the cat is ok, but because it is the shade the sunny parts are overexposed.

Face obscured - would have preferred more striking "look" or more of the face.

Branch over the body is in the way.

I know this sounds harsh, but it is extremely difficult to photograph these cats. I hope it helps?

    Cheers

    Cheetah

    Hi Lars

I have just returned from the Kalahari with a bundle of shots so I know how difficult it is to get these shots! Is this a wild animal?

I would have liked the cheetah to have looked at the camera, and have the light from the front a bit more. Otherwise it seems nice and sharp and if it is a wild animal you did well to get so close.

    Cheers

Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. It was indeed my first sighting of a wild leopard after about 4 years of trying! Thanks, Jean

Thanks, it was early morning and I got the impression she was looking for her mate. We followed her for about 90 minutes and she kept looking back, as if she was searching for something. Everytime she looked back I fired!
