Both are excellent indeed. I like the other one better for the direct contact her eyes make with the viewer and the happy smile.
Agree on the darker background being better though. :-)

The shadows were dark.. really dark, the horse almost black and the
wall in front bleached white by the strong desert sun.
I've tried to make the white foreground work for me by enhancing it
while the details of the shade are soft and complete.

Do you have a version at a faster exposure? I liked this photograph. The contrast between the harshness of the rocks and mountains seems incongruous with the soft treatment of the water Would love to see the other version if you do have :-)
